View Full Version : I would like to show my support for Al Dukes.

The man has, in this very short time, pissed himself, been ridiculed every nite, has confirmed over and over to the public that "he has balls!", has confirmed over and over to the public that "he is gay", has been harassed, heckled, and almost beat up at bar crawls, has had his head shaved, has had his sexual life exposed on the radio, has made a few bad decisions (not taking that girl out for $500) has had a group of assembled trained fag spotters (randy ken and I) call him gay to his face....but has always kept a smile throughout everything. I used to hate Al Dukes when he first came on. I thought he was a tool. IN fact, my first time in the studio I felt he was nothing more than a closeted homo. But, you know what? My opinion has changed. I respect the guy. Radio business is NOT all that easy, and he has taken ENOUGH abuse. We all have a good laugh at him, but I think he does a good job. Al Dukes, if you read this, thank you. Thanks for the laughs. When you pissed yourself I almost drove off I-195 into the woods of Howell NJ...I would be saddened to see Al go. I want to start this thread to show my support for the 5-pumpster. If you agree, please respond. If not, just leave your negativety towards him somewheres else. Thank you!

As far as Al Dukes' role on the show goes, I think that he provides necessary confrontation, whether by choice or not.
You see, Ron and Fez are bestest buddies, and Joe Poo only adds to their dynamic. Without Al, the only people who would get yelled at are some of the callers. The show doesn't even give Billy a hard time anymore because he has been doing such a bang-up job on the bar crawls. But the show needs dissention.
Al Dukes is most likely an unwitting comic genius, meaning that he has no concept of how to be personable or funny, and that it is his lacking of these traits which makes him the hilarious addition that he is. What we need is for people to try and understand that while he is a tool, the show just wouldn't be as good without him. And if some producing has to be sacrificed for the comedy, then so be it.
And I know that the "People who hate Al Dukes" thread, also known as the "Chet who hates Al Dukes" thread has been locked up, but I would like to say that the IkeaBoy/Tuttle response was one of the wittiest posts I have seen on this site to date.
Keep up the bad work, Al Dukes.
Kindest Regards, Your Name

I would have to,in part, agree with you Big Jim.Al Dukes does put up with sometimes "excessive" amounts of ridicule. But people have to realize that Al Dukes is predominately a character on the show.It may be true that his character is spawned from bits of truth but he is a character none the less.He should expect some measure of ridicule from the stories he tells. He tells them, knowing full well what is in store for him from the callers.Just like when people go to the movies they love to cheer for the hereo, boo the villian and laugh at the lackey.Same with when we tune into Ron and Fez,there are the heros villians and lackys(Al Dukes). But i must admit in some cases he has gone above and beyond what "normal" lackys go through.

I met Al once and he was a very nice guy. Laid back and quiet, but nice. Are those good radio producer qualities? I don't know.
I did tell him that it was too bad that he takes such heat on the air and he just smiled.
You can't deny that his Al-itorial was comedy genius.

Al Dukes is a radio genious. Of course most people wouold disagree, but think about it. If someone was really this bad would he still have a job in the #1 market?? no he wouldnt. He's there to make listeners hate him, thats his whole thing, i mean who knows. did al think this character up? did ron or fez do think it up? who knows but rest assured that al's character on the air isnt really al. Who ever thought about this whole concept of having everyone hate al is a genious. I dont know shit about radio but i can tell that Al does his job. He produces good radio. So hate'em or love'em, he's here to stay, and he does his job pretty damn good, its just that his on air personality would have you believe otherwise. wow i shouldnt be drinking so early im rambling. heh heheheheh
He Sucks. Mark my words, he'll be gone soon. Ratings=Money, and all things obey money, so once top brass figure out where the squeaky wheel is, they'll axe Al.

Interesting opinion you have, but do you really think Infinity Broadcasting would waste having a genius produce an evening show? How many markets does Ron & Fez get piped into?

I have met Al on a few occassions. Besides the fact that his on-air persona resembles that of a Speed Bump, he happens to be a great guy.
I support Al BIG TIME. He adds a lot to the show, I just haven't quite figured out exactly what it is. But when I do, I will pass it on.
Long live Al "Bon Jovi" Dukes.

Al Dukes rocks.
Yes, there's even room for Alkey on RF.net!
He Sucks. Mark my words, he'll be gone soon. Ratings=Money, and all things obey money, so once top brass figure out where the squeaky wheel is, they'll axe Al.For once you are right, MP. Ratings are all that matter. The only problem with you argument, though, is that the Ron and Fez Show trended upward at middays, and have raised the ratings at night.

Yes the ratings have gone up, because of Ron and Fez's devoted audience following them (not because of Dukey Stain's doing). They have also gone up also because of the O&A listener buffer (before and after O&A, people tend to tune in and thankfully get hooked on R&F). O&A is the big moneymaker for WNEW, and if you can get another top-quality show that listeners tune into, you make more money. Ron and Fez are the most likely candidates to make that happen. I know that the 7-11 slot is when most people are watching TV, eating dinner or going out, and that sucks for R&F. That's why the pressure should be on to eliminate bad elements on R&F (like duke-hole), so that it becomes the well-oiled machine to attract listeners and get better ratings.

Hey Dan, we all like Ron & Fez here. Don't you think R&F would like to see the light of day while they are on the air. How happy can they be switching from a medium revenue time slot to a low revenue time slot when the two grandfathers dumped them in that hole.
Can R&F's genius producer dig them out of there?

OK FOR ALL YOU MAD OR "TERRORIST" PRODUCERS OUT THERE, AND FOR YOU DUMB PEOPLE OUT THERE TOO. DONT YOU SEE THAT THIS ALL DUKES CHARACTER IS WHAT GIVES RON AND FEZ RATINGS. DO YOU SEE HOW PEOPLE LOVE TO HATE AL DUKES?? ITS LIKE WRESTLING, WHEN YOU HAVE A BAD GUY YOU LOVE TO HATE HIM, YOU DONT BITCH ABOUT HAVING HIM THROWN OUT OF THE WWF. NO YOU WANT HIM THERE BECAUSE IT GIVES YOU SOMETHING TO TALK, OR LAUGH, OR BITCH ABOUT. IT GETS YOUR ATTENTION AND THATS WHAT COUNTS. AL DUKES GETS EVERYONE'S ATTENTION. NOW IT CANT BE GREAT RADIO ALL THE TIME, CUZ I HAVE FOUND MYSELF TURNING OFF THE RADIO FOR A HALF AN HOUR OR SO WHEN THE AL DUKES THING GETS BORING, BUT FOR THE MOST OF IT THATS THE SHOW. LOOK AT O&A, THEY HAVE STALKER PATTY ON THE SHOW. sHE DOESNT EVEN WORK FOR THEM. AND REMEMBER THAT DAY WHEN OPIE WAS CRYING ABOUT HOW SHE'S A STALKER AND SHE WONT GO AWAY AND HE DOESNT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH HER, YET HE INVITES HER UPSTAIRS INTO THE STUDIO ANYWAY. WHY? CUZ IT MAKES FOR GOOD RADIO. NORMALLY PEOPLE LAUGH WHEN THEY PICK ON PATTY, THAT DAY OPIE WENT TOO FAR AND MADE HIMSELF LOOK LIKE A TOOL. AND MOST OF THE LISTENERS WEREN'T HAPPY WITH OPIE, HE WAS GETTING ALOT OF NEGATIVE ATTENTION BUT THE KEY WORD THERE IS ATTENTION. HOWARD STERN GOT FAMOUS BECAUSE OF PEOPLE WHO HATED AND COULDNT STAND HIS SHOW. BUT THEY LISTENED BECAUSE THEY LOVE TO HATE. WE ALL LOVE TO HATE, SO CHET, AKA MAD PRODUCER, I WOULDNT HOLD MY BREATHE WAITING FOR AL DUKES TO LEAVE THE RON AND FEZ SHOW, BECAUSE AS LONG AS PEOPLE LIKE YOU HATE HIM HE WILL HAVE A JOB. AND AGAIN IVE TYPED UP A BIG DRUNKEN MESS, SO I APOLOGIZE IF I MADE NO SENSE WHATSO EVER, IM STILL HUNG OVER.

How can R&F get great ratings when we turn off the show? That's what R&F don't want you to do. I know I sound like a tool for beating a dead horse, and I'm sorry, but I love Ron and Fez, and when things/people get in their way, I get upset.

ok plain and simple, if al dukes was doing harm to the show, do you really think ron and fez would give him airtime? do you really think that he would have a job there? think about it, he's there for a reason, maybe b4 the show they decide, "ok dukes, today your going to say that your only giving $20 for your cousins wedding and then we all get to tool on you." or maybe it just happens spontaniously. but the whole thing is that al dukes' character is a big part of the show, of course sometimes they take it too far and it gets boring but basically "al dukes" is a bit for all of us to hate. And face it we all love to hate him and tool on him.
Then why did the Powers that Be, ban him from the studio?

Compliments of WWFallon.
Philatio and Circusboy; I'm sure he's a cool guy and a great friend, but I'm more concerned with something else: the Ron and Fez show. Ron and Fez used to have producers who would do anything for them, and I mean ANYTHING. Do you guys remember the stories about Tuttle, and of course Paulo? The stuff that those Florida Producers would do for R&F makes all of the NY producers look like mindless producing automatons. The bits that the Florida Producers did, didn't detract from Ron and Fez, but merely enhanced the end Product; making Ron and Fez funnier, more powerful, more diabolical and even, some say to this day, more Supernatural (I'm talking radio Deities here).
How else would a radio show from "White Trash" Tampa get picked to be in the #1 radio market NYC? Was it because they were the only "Zany" talk show that WNEW could find (if they wanted "Zany" they could have gotten Bob and Tom, who are nationally syndicated)? No, they chose Ron and Fez because they were original, amazingly funny and just gosh darn cool. :)
Oh, by the way, I'm NOT the mad producer and I don't ever want to produce a radio show, I'm just an avid listener and a BIG Ron and Fez fan!! ;)

My life certainly doesn't revolve around bashing Al, but it does revolve around Ron and Fez. And yes, a producer helps a radio show grow and prosper. A producer doesn't cause daily anguish and frustration for the staff and the Radio Hosts. A producer is a team player. Did you ever play basketball, baseball etc. and throw a ball to someone to score, and they dropped it? Were you frustrated? Were you angry because some member of YOUR team didn't have what it takes? Imagine if that teammate started to drop the ball every time you threw it to him. Eventually he wouldn't get to play at all because nobody could count on him. That is what I am talking about.
After this post, I will not speak again of this subject (until he is off the show, of course). I'm too tired to fight and I want to concentrate on the good qualities of the show. Sorry to disappoint y'all. (Everyone can cheer now - Yaaaayyy!!!)

They are cool to listen to, Hell I admire them and base my radio show off of theirs, and read the board everytime I get sick of studying Spanish or what Aristotle said to Plato. Dukes is gone....
I been in radio for almost 7 years now, have seen people come and go. RNF have from what I can understand, the fastest turn around for producers. it's not a reflection of them, just of who now is up there. There's always been a certain pride to say i produce a radio show in new york city. Al, like a lot of upcomers, don't care.

Your post shows your lack of knowledge. Al doesn't do a thing behind the scenes. he can't do production work which is the no 1 job of a producer. He has a staff team that cannot execute. The tranny thing the other night was the most uncomfortable bit I have ever heard in radio in a really long time. You always hear on o@a that rick is working on stuff, hey rick when will it be done ect. Rick is such an asset to o@a and cbs. he may not be comic, but he gets the job done. I learned early, and learned often from a famous NJ rock musician about perfection. About how it can go a very long way. How striving for it pays off. There's zero continuity from dukes. This is a job where you don't need a college education to do. Al only got the job cause he knows people and he went to college for it. the only reason why RNF are so in Arbs and trends is because of them, not because of al. Every single show on that station has guests. Wanna know something. A nighttime show is perfect for guests. I produced morning drive in NJ for 4 years, and the major setbakcs of getting guests ( because most celebs are on the west coast) is getting them up to call. 7 o clock NYC time is 4 their time, perfect. It's not hard to do. You can call up any publicist, hi im al from wnew in NYC, they will kiss your ass to get on your show. If the guest calls during commercials, shortcut it. No big deal. mad producer has taken 4 months and hasn't even gotten good ole jack. hell he has a 2nd ( or maybe 5th) home right down the block from me, doesn't take much to produce a radio show at all. I may sound like im bragging about myself, but im just trying to show you how easy it is to get into radio, make a ton of money, and pretty much if you can have a show lined out produced before it gets on the air, you can just sit back and do nothing while your guys are on the air.

Ummm, Philatio, first of all, I am NOT the "Man with desk next to Al Dukes", if that is what you're thinking (compare and contrast my posts with his - you'll notice I don't have that much in-depth knowledge about radio as he does).
