If this was 1986 instead of 2006, I'd say great. Both of those guys has seen better days.

As an aside, I never understood Letterman's facination with Stern. Howard used to rip him to shreds, mock and belittle him regularly. Maybe it was the ratings boost but Letterman has been winning in the ratings for a decade.

My understanding of the ratings for the two shows is that Leno routinely beats Letterman, unless he has a big guest on, and then he will beat Leno. For example, he got a huge audience for Michael Richards' bizarre apology a few weeks back.

Ultimately, being #1 doesn't mean Jay does a better show - most #1 movies and albums I think suck.

When all is said and done, though, Dave gets the bigger paycheck - CBS isn't trying to push Dave out to make way for Conan O'Brien - while he may be more subdued now, basically Dave's schtick didn't do a 180 when he got the 11:35 pm slot like Leno did - and, it is my opinion that Dave will get the nod by history as to putting on the better show and the true heir to Carson, even if he wasn't the top of the ratings.

I would like to see Howard go on Dave and fire back at O&A from when they were on the show... let's start 2007 with a SIRIUS I mean SERIOUS RADIO WAR!!!! Of course Ron and Fez can do the play by play of said war comfortably from the box.

Its actually not a bad set for hoo hoo howie. Dave seems so much more relaxed with him as opposed to OnA. I mean they have a past together but its just a totally different vibe.

I still think Stern is a hack who is on the show only to sell shit.

I was an occasional listener of Howard in the early mid 90s then he got old to me. Seein him on letterman he has not changed. HE thinks its all about him. HE doesnt have anything to say. HE also is used a clip on letterman that was dated. He stunk if he was trying to sell his show. As a guest he was just like a hollywood type. BORING!
