Has anyone heard them yet?ÿ They're fantastic.

It's a three cd collection called Orphans, and each disc has its own name (Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards).ÿ I haven't listened to Bawlers as much as the others, but they're all fantastic.

Now I have 18 of his cds.ÿ Kind of pathetic, this obsession.

I've had it in my shopping cart for a week. I'm just trying to convince myself to spend the cash on it.

I love Tom Waits, yet own none of his albums.

I've always really dug everything of his I've heard, which is a lot over the years, but his catalog is so expansive (and ultimately expensive) that it's kinda intimidated me as to where I should start. Would this set be a good stepping off point?

And my required Wire plug...Waits' "Way Down In The Hole" is the theme song, and it kicks ass. Each year they have a different version of it sung by a different group or artist. Waits' original was used in season 2, not coincidentally my favorite season.

I've got the entire catalog except Orphans (On the X-Mas List).

That being said for a fan that doesn't know where to start, I'll just say this: Waits has evolved greatly over the years from 70's troubadour to modern spaceman. All of it is great in my opinion. I don't know what you guys think, but Swordfishtrombones is probably his most biggest transition point between the two styles.

As for records:

Troubadour Years: The Heart of Saturday Night

80's Madman: RainDogs or Frank's Wild Years

Modern Spaceman: Mule Variations.

You really can't go wrong as the songwriting is amazing. The vocals I will not guarantee your money back on though.
