View Full Version : Dry Winter Nose...HELP!

I got my first nosebleed of the season this morning, one of many to come. I
know it's the dry air from having the heat on (we have a forced-air heat
pump). I bought a humidifier but that isn't helping. Last year I kept it a
cold 62 degrees inside all winter which helped a little but this year with a
new baby in the house I have to keep it warmer which means suffering for
my poor nose. I use saline spray but that doesn't help much either.
Anybody have any good remedies?

by a humidifier for your room ... you'll sleep better and not be so bleedy.

Get the generic variety of "Ocean" it's a saline nose spray. Cheap, no side effects and works like magic

WebMD concurs with the Rooster on this. Humidifier should do the trick.

Any other suggestions I haven't tried? Maybe I just have an uber sensitive
nose and am doomed to suffer.

Get a bottle of saline nasal spray. Not the stuff for a stuffy nose... It's just saline. It helps me when my nose is dry.

Seriously though, if you are not sleeping in the same room as the baby just try keeping one of your windows open just a little bit. It'll make your room cooler than the rest of the house and bring in a little moisture.

It really works though, just take a bit put it in your nose, hold down the other nostril and snort it up there. Works like a peach.

Not to beat a dead horse, but what nasal spray are you using? I use Zicam Nasal Comfort and have found that helps a lot ((I suffer from the dry nose too)). Maybe you need to use something stronger than you already have.

Sorry its not a real help... just trying to make a suggestion.

I have been using saline nasal spray for a few years now and it helps enormously. I get the Target brand. Cheep and good. Try Walgreens too.

While showering, I also will cup and handfull of water and gently draw it into my nose and then blast it out. Just hose down the walls afterward!

Any brand-name humidifiers/vaporizors you're happy with and can
recommend? I'm thinking the one I have just stinks. As far as nasal spray,
I've used Ocean saline spray and generic saline spray and it's better than
nothing but still really doesn't help that much. I hate feeling like a dried-out
mummy in the winter. Maybe I will start snorting vaseline!

According to my older brother, and believe me, he had nasal issues, he uses a "water pik" nasal spray. it's actually a water pik designed to shoot warm water and salt into one nostril and out of the other. he has not had a problem for 3 years after a lifetime of problems. check it out.
