View Full Version : Staples' Farley Impression - Comedic Brilliance
I thought Staples was in rare form tonight. His impression was amazing and he held on to it. I liked how his improv of the character really blossomed the more Ron and Fez let him get into it.
Staples, I salute you!!!

You know I love Staples and I think it's a great bit when he does it on stage, but "Comedic Brilliance" is a little strong. He's basically copying another great comedian's bit and not nearly as well. It was funny, but far from brilliant.
I'll take less funny original stuff than copied funnier stuff anytime.

I thought he was doing his impression of Dan talking about working on his writing. My mistake.

What made it brilliant was that he never abandoned what appeared to be a sinking ship and somehow road it safely to shore.
Go Peacocks!

Jersey Tim, my sentiments exactly. He held on and didn't let up, even when it seemed like the sinking ship was getting too close to the maelstrom of doom.
Also, imitating an imitation is fine, as long as it is funny. And that it was.
Hat's off to Billy!!!

The impression was quite nearly dead on. Loved it.

I loved the bit. I thought it was funny as hell. It almost makes up for all of those bad Airsick songs.
Latter Day Chris Farley is a smash!

Don't get me wrong, he made me laugh my ass off. I guess that's the point, so I'll shut up. I just took issue with the word "brilliance"

i understand where dan's coming from. something can be funny, but notbrilliant. brilliance indicates something of originality, creativity, that you've never heard before. it was funny and done well but not brlliant.

Okay, okay, maybe I was a little too over-the-top in the complimentary adjective department. But I still loved his bit.

I will still choose modern day Jim Morrison over Billy's Farley. It was good but Joe Poo came through with an outrageous character.

Jester, it also might have been because Morrison was closer to the microphone than Farley, so you could hear more nuances in Morrison's voice. Just a little audible observation.

I heard him loud and clear but it was just that the Farley bit could not be taken in large doses since it is just him repeating his lines over and over.

Hmmm....hates Dukes, thinks Staples is a genius.... something smells like a Dogg.
Also Jim Morrison Poo was better than Foley.

Wrong again, I'm not Mad Dog, Mad Producer, Mad Anything, except I'm Mad for Ron and Fez. I'm someone new to the board, but I've been listening to them since they came to NYC.
I definitely won't compare one bit against another, cuz they both were great. Besides, its like comparing apples to oranges.
