View Full Version : Greatest Heel...

When Smackdown! started on UPN, they used to do related stories and have fan pols. One they did was "Who is/was the greatest Villian of all time?" It sucked because everyone answered with current talent.

So I will pose this question to you all. Who are some of the greatest Heels of all time? Give a name and your reasoning. For me...

3) Vince McMahon(1998-1999): The reality of his gimmick is what made it so great.

2) Sgt. Slaughter(1991): This was an UNBELIEVABLE storyline for that time period. I was 16 and I HATED Slaughter.

3) Andy Kauffman: I know. But I am NOT on crack. Think about it, people in the wrestling world despised him and Hollywood thought he had finally lost his mind. The best part of it was that everyone was fooled into thinking it was real for 16 years! It was just about the greatest work ever.

Greatest heel of all time? In my 26 years I'd have to go with Ric Flair. Noone showed more style while breaking the rules. Currently, I'd go with HHH cause he truly loves being the heel and anyone who can have people hate him solely on his character is doing something right.

My top three would go as follows:
3) Vince McMahon- Without him feuding with Austin the WWF is a dead company today.
2) HHH- In time he will be #1, but for the sake that he is "current" we will leave him at 2.
1) Sgt. Slaughter- BigBlue you are correct, that was an incredible storyline for it's time, and best of all it related to people of all ages.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME-AHHH!

Solomethod I agree.

It has to be the arguably greatest of all-time, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. He was the constant heel in every sense of the imagination from his humble begins as an arrogant wannabe "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers, to the formation of the 4 Horsemen, to his jump to the WWF and punking out Hogan and Macho with Perfect, Rude and the Weasel on his side.

This is FAIR to FLAIR!

*no particular order, and in my opinion, the greater heel you were, the better face you became.

Flair

Hogan (I hate Hogan, but you have to admit his heel turn originally pretty much made the nWo and what it became)

Vince

Jericho (old school wCw)

Raven, the Dudley's, and Shane Dougles (in old ECW not what is going on currently)

Ravishing Rick Rude

the Great Muta

Bret Hart

Austin

HHH

Owen Hart

Iron Shek, Slaugter, Volkof

Undertaker

Foley

Shawn Michaels

Big Jon Stud and King Kong Bundy

Bobby Heenan

Savage

Hall and NAsh

Too Poo, how can you classify HBK as one of the greatest heels. I'll give you that he was over as a heel, but still everybody loved him no matter what he did. It makes it kind of hard to be a true heel that way.

he was a bad guy the fans loved to hate... very similar to the reactions Flair got... I think thats what made him a great heel.

I stand by the fact the greatest faces came from great heels.

The Nature Boy, Ric Flair, is the greatest heel of all time. He is truly the "dirtiest player in the game"!

HHH is a great *current* heel, but of all time? Please. Hell, to go really old school, Fritz Von Erich, Killer Kowalski (who trained Trips) and The Destroyer were all better heels.

Gotta go with RR Piper back in the 'Pipers Pit' days. He was a natural prick and funny to boot.

Honorable mention to two more, Stan Hanson and Don Muroco. Hanson had to get police escorts after he broke the neck of the hero of that age, Bruno Sammartino. There supposidily were legit threats on his life. The original rock, Don Muroco, gets the nod by having the balls to walk to the ring for a match eating a sub. Talk about rude...those were the days.

I love Ric Flair, but that's the problem, he was always more loved than hated. Hell, he's been a "good guy" half of his career. There is only one true heel left, ad he is sadly passed...Ravishing Rick Rude.

1) Sgt. Slaughter- BigBlue you are correct, that was an incredible storyline for it's time, and best of all it related to people of all ages.

And it related so well they had to move Wrestlemania to the LA Sports Arena where they wouldn't have had 45,000 empty seats...putting Hogan and Slaughter in the ring was like taking honey and pouring molasses on it, then watching it sit there. I'd rather watch frogs fuck.

This is hard for me to believe. What Hollywood Hogan did for WCW makes him by far the biggest heal of all time. Nevermind he has no wrestling talent but the fact is that the only wrestling organization to have any real sucsess besides the WWF was WCW directly because of Hogan Being a heal. Ratings soared after NWO came around and dropped when it got played out. Noone in history ever gave a more arrogant, self-centered speeches than Hollywood and of course his followers were great also. (hall nash stiener macho etc). Love him or hate him you must admit he is by far the biggest name in wrestling history and made the WWF and WCW. Hollywood is just 2 sweeet.

I can't believe Pantera is the only one who put 'The Million Dollar Man' on the list. Yes, all the others were great heels, but the DiBiase was absolutely the best. Being a youngster at the time, I didn't understand all that made a heel, I just knew I hated him. Now, looking back it's like wow, he was an amazing talent. From the moment the music started "Money money money money money", until he went back through the curtain, he was master showman. Absolutely the best.

the dudleys were great heels in ecw but i've got to agree with pantera, the million dollar man was definetely the best heel. I'd have to go with the heel Rock from the NOD. I just wish we'd see him some day. Lord knows the fans would be receptive judging form Wrestlemania and SummerSlam. And, unlike with Austin, whose heel turn hurt the company, the Rock has turned into such a side dish rather than a main meal due to all the time he takes off, turning him wouldn't hurt the company.

Nonetheless, how the hell can a guy whose idea of a great gift to Faarooq to make up for screwing up a tag match being a life size portrait of himself NOT be one of the greatest heels of all time?

Its funny how everyone keeps mentioning the Dudley Boyz. But if you remember correctly there were a lot of Dudleys.

Dances with Dudley
Dudley Boy Dudley
Snot Dudley
Chubby Dudley
Big Dick Dudley
Buh Buh Ray Dudley
Spike Dudley
D-Von Dudley
Sign Guy Dudley

so. . . as a family heel gimmick they have a legacy. But I have to say ECW's D-von was the best heel. because he never was face, as a Dudley. D-Von is the heel amongst the dudleys.
