I know it's really cool to hate greenday but I really dig em. Simple catchy pop tunes full of hooks and good lyric writing. AND they earned their millions the old fashion way... by living in a van and playing every shit hole club for very little money for years. Radio does fuck em a lil , but they are tight trio.

Here is a video of BJ defending his fans from some idiot who was looking for a fight..

ps - just becuz we're rockstars, doesn't mean we won't kick the living shit out of you

WOW, i love green day. i seen them last year at giants stadium. it was a good show. I like them for the same reasons: catchy hook, good lyrics and the guys seem to never stop touring. I even turned my 11 year old nephew on to them and he is now hooked on rock music. For Christmas he is getting some punk rock music and some classic rock.

I saw them play at Woodstock 94 during that whole mud fight deal (btw, the mud was not 100% mud considering it was mixed in with tipped over porta potties). I don't know if they showed it on TV, but one of them stage dived, then tried to get back on stage and security didn't realize it was one of the band members and beat the SHIT out of the guy. It wasn't billy joe, I guess it was the bass player.

I used to like them until they decided to do a Dixie Chicks thing and bring their politics into their act.

Then I sobered up an realized they have been playing the same song for like 12 years.

Kinda like Rod Stewart but at least that limey doesnt talk politics.

The thing I like about Green Day is that they play with their hearts... even though they are huge they never really sold out. Sure they have been on every magazine cover and all that crap... but that comes with the territory. I've seen them live many times and if they play a small club or a stadium they put on a great show.

Kudos to them... they earned a right to talk about politics... Groups mature just like people. When they were in there late teens early 20s they sang about drugs and they evolved as people and a band. I was never a huge Green day fan , and I know the too hip for the room crowd shits all over them, but American Idiot as a piece of work from start to finish is a masterpiece... so some of the singles are overplayed on radio... Is that the bands fault. And as for your same song for 12 years theory point about what song on Dookie sounds anything like Jesus of suburbia... or what song on Warning sounds like Nimrod...

I used to dig them, then did the backlash thing when they got overly popular when DOOKIE came out, but completely came back around - for all the reasons you listed - AND because they really seem like they are still having fun doing it.

I got ya...

just one last thing on your last point... when they wrote that CD that was a very unpopular stance in this country... it was when everyone hated Dikie CHicks, France, etc, anyone who didn't go along with the master plan...

Green Day got big the right way, as was stated before. I think it was awesome the way they handled the situation.

About American Idiot being a political album, I agree. I wasn't big on the song American Idiot (not just because of the message, but also because I don't think it's that good) but the rest of the album is really good.

Just a side note, My Chemical Romance got big the same way as Green Day yet they are hated and Green Day is liked. They bothw ear make up, and they both have lyrics that may seem over the top for their teenage fans.
