One of the greatest Punk Ska bands ever broke up in 1989 over differences in views. (this show was also greendays first, not that greenday matters) Most of Op Ivy went off to form Rancid. The Lead singer formed his own band named Common rider which broke up in 03. This week in san francisco Jesse Michaels (lead singer) sung with rancid at one of theyre shows. The song was "Unity" which is considered theyre most popular song. This is so insanely awesome.

Just not under the name op ivy kinda. Its gonna be rancid/opivy prety much. And greenday was good , until theyre last album. I have all theyre other albums.

Op Ivy was kick ass. Sadly I didn't see them live, but I was able to catch Fifteen in the early 90's. Jeff Ott was in rare form that day. For some reason he though it would be a good idea to take all of his clothes off for a couple of songs. Maybe he's related to Bobo?

Wow, fifteen? What a reference. Never saw them live (have an old video of op ivy though), my freind saw fifteen and said Ott was a total slf-important douche.

Jesse Michaels has sung with Rancid from time to time before this.

Green Day was banned from the Gilman St. club where the last show was performed because they signed to a 'big label'' ( they left lookout! records and joined reprise records)

op ivy is probably one of the most important, unrecognized bands of all time.

doesnt one of them dudes have cancer? i figured that would be the impetus of an op ivy reunion. either that or tim armstrong remembers he's not jamaican and runs out of heroin money.

unity is a good choice for them to do together cus it has vocal parts for tim and jesse, so i dont know if id take it as a portent of things to come.

also, best op ivy song = vulnerability

I don't have a clue as to what punk even stands for today. Back in 2004 it was a let's get rid of Bush political statement which united so many people that it hardly seemed punk at all. Now, I really don't know what it's about.

the anti bush shit was really just epitaph bands and a few others and it was really fake and exploiting a very shitty situation. punk is about and should only ever be about music- but because it attracts kids that feel out of place elsewhere you get the whole concept of a scene, which should be a positive thing but gets really elitist because alot of these guys really wanted to be popular, and this is thier avenue to do it. rack up as many scene points as possible, out punk everyone. gilman banning greenday is retarded but the music they play now doesnt belong there- believe me if greenday said tomorrow we're just gonna tour kerplunk and slappy hours playing places that hold less than a 1000 gilman would jerk off all over themselves to book it.

that whole episode also came outof a time in the 90's before stuff shifted when jumping from lookout, which is a great label, to warner was shattering. independant labels today arent the same as independant labels then, they have so much more clout and alot of the reason is because bands like greenday (who i dont even like) getting really really big and showing that diy music can be sold. dookie was not a sellout record, and while theyre in completely differant places now then they were then its just been a progression, and kids need to accept that.

Greenday has a few albums i like but the last one was garbage pretty much. And Punk in itself is a paradox so it really doesnt matter. I think of it as a genre and a attitude a person has. Its not about image, its not about how unknown a good band is or how well known a bad band is. Im Kevin, Im 18 and i love punk music, i have my own opinions about subjects. Thats what makes me punk. How about you?

while gorilla biscuits was good, and seeing walter and stuff was fun, the fact that civ's voice doesnt crack while he's singing makes it not as good.
