All this business of R and F being back on the air and talk of the old NEW days has me looking back to a different time. At that time I used to listen to the band Stereolab. I wonder if youve heard of them. I saw them live once at Irving Plaza. VW used one of their songs for a commercial, but I used to listen to the on WNYU.

http://www.myspace.com/stereolab

I love the Dots and Loops album. Someone gave me the promo copy of it in 97 and I wore it out. They've had some hits and misses over the years, but anytime they get back to that kind of sound they had in that album I will listen.

It reminds me of the kind of background music they had in grocery stores twenty years ago. You can just roll your eyes back and drift.

I used listen to a lot of Stereolab ca. 1996-98. Nice droney vibe - perfect for when you get tired of your Velvets and Yo La Tengo albums, but want a similar feel. I vividly remember driving solo to New Orleans in the fall of 1998 with three tapes: Howlin' Wolf, Leonard Cohen and Stereolab's Emperor Tomato Club. It was surprisingly dandy swamp music.

I remember their backup vocalist Mary Hansen died in a bicycle accident in 2002. Haven't heard much from them since then, but I gather they're still active.
