Early December i took a road trip with a couple of friends to North Carolina. One had a house down there so we didn't have many, if any expenses besides food really.

I always try to head somewhere different when i go and im looking to save up to take another one for either mid-January orearly February but im kinda stuck on where would be a cool place to go. I guess it's not so much the place as the people who are accompanying you but i'd still like to see something different without it being too expensive/far.

Any ideas?

I did Boston to North Carolina my junior year of college. 'Bout a 14 hour drive and a good time, not counting the speeding ticket we got in Virginia.

I'm doing LA to NY in April... It's gonna be pricey, but I think it'll be worth it. It's time for me to see this damn country.

...I apologize for contributing nothing to answering your question.

I love road trips. The are the coolest thing ever. anyway, some ideas...

You can rent a cabin upstate NY. You can do things like snow shoeing, snowmobiling. pretty cool.

Montreal is only 6 hours from NY. It's the coolest place ever. I have never been brave enough to go during winter, but I saw it on TV once, and it looked pretty cool.

Washington DC isn't that far, and if you like museums and stuff, most of them are free, and there are alot of them.

In burlington Vermont, Magic hat brewery has a mardis gras party thats supposed to be pretty bad ass. It's feb 16/18 http://www.magichat.net/mardigras2007/

I'm not sure about a camper, that seems a little much for a 3-4 day "getaway". My boyfriend's sister is heading up to Vermont with her boyfriend on the 29th so maybe she'll have some kind words about the place when she gets back.

A friend of mine and myself have been halfassed-ly attempting to get a cabin in Montreal for skiing/snowboarding but i don't think that is going to come to fruition. Either way Montreal has always been a place i wanted to check out, so thanks for the reminder.

Go up to Lake Placid, and stay at the Adirondack Mountain Lodge. Lake Placid is really cool - "Do you believe in miracles?! - and the day hiking in the mountains from the lodge is great.

http://www.adk.org/ad_loj/
<> ps. how the hell do you add a hyperlink in these messages?

Anytime that I go on a road trip to a specific destination, I try and see if there are any interesting sights or stuff on the way there from point A to point B that I can string along.

When I went to PA two years ago (or was it 3), I went to Longwood Gardens, the Strausburg Railroad, Crystal Cave, Reading Helicopter Museum, and some other places.

When I went to Conn. aside from the Casinos, I checked out the U.S.S. Nautilus and Submarine Force museum, Msytic, the Pequot Native american museum, the Zoo in Rhode Island and a whole buch of other stuff.

I also check out Hollyeats.com for any interesting eating places along the way and also the Roadside America Guide to uniquely odd tourist attractions.

Good luck!
