Loved the book...hated the movie.

PD James wrote this thing as a social commentary with awesome character growth. The movie tosses all that aside, so much so that universal infertility seems like a good idea.

Has anybody seen the movie that hasn't read the book? I'm sure the book is better (they usually are), but how does the movie rate on it's own. Is it a good flick if you don't have any preconcieved notions?

I'm not busting on you Zorro, I just want to know if it's a good movie on it's own. I know how you feel though - I read Jurrasic Park first so I hated the movie. The effects were good, but the book had a much more solid storyline.

Intersting ideas no character development. Watched it this
evening after the games at home.

I read the book years ago probably around the time when it
came out in the 90's. So it's not like it was fresh in my mind
when i watched the film.

We thought the movie was pretty cool but the anti-Bush crap in there seemed a little out of place for 2027 England.

I mean, a direct rip off of a Abu Ghraib prison scandal complete to the outfits the prisoners were made to wear? Come on..

The camera even focused in a Bush sticker that was proceeded by an anti Iraq was sticker. They seemed to be pushing this stuff a little too hard in this movie, but besides for that it was really cool. It was like I was watching Half Life 2 the movie, just with out the Combine. That end sequence, the one thats like 7 minutes long of pure action with out a single cut in it was an act of awesomtude.

Because i have no preconcieved ideas about what it shoulda been I can't say that i was disappointed, but i can definitely see how this wasn't everything that it coulda been. Nothing really ever gets developed past the mere mention of certain things. I would've liked to have had some more development on the whole "England is the only civilized country left" stuff. I really didn't notice the anti-Bush stuff as much other than the obvious undertones of the fact that the movie is being made in this time. And i guess i just kinda wanted a different ending. Overall though, because i have no concept of what it could've been i'd say see it if you haven't read the book. 3 stahzzzz because its actually an intelligent movie when there isn't a lot out there to see.
