I realized that everytime I'm looking on youtube for any act I really like from the mid 80's or before they have an snl video and its totally depressing cus none of that wierd shit could ever get on snl now. they wouldnt point a camera at hideous ass patti smith to sing a 5 and a half minute version of gloria, let alone let someone stand there and say 'jesus died for someones sins but not mine'

I've been wondering something. When I was a kid, I saw an SNL with The Band. They said it was their last performance ever. I'm assuming this was around the time of The Last Waltz. Does anyone know if this performance was before, or after the "Last Waltz" show?

At that age, I'd heard of The Band, and liked their music. I remember being disappointed that they were breaking up. I guess I should check Youtube, to see if that SNL performance is there.

I remember when Devo performed on SNL for the first time. My friends and
I planned a big party and gathered around the set to see them play
"Satisfaction" and it was SOOOO exciting. I think back then SNL or Don
Kirschner's Rock Concert were some of the only places to see a band
perform live. Then MTV came along and changed everything.

The Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack was another one. And the Bay City Rollers always did a song on their saturday morning show.

I just did a search and found that The Band's performance on SNL was, in fact, before the Last Waltz show by one month. I guess they meant that it would be their last performance on TV. Turns out, it's the episode where Buck Henry got nicked in the head by Belushi's samurai sword.

And here's the clip...
