M*A*S*H and Cheers. Both so good that even when major characters left, the shows got better.

Agree with Mary Tyler Moore, Arrested Development and News Radio! I have
to add:

The Andy Griffith Show

The Dick Van Dyke show

The Bob Newhart show (when he was a psychiatrist)

WKRP in Cincinnati

Six Feet Under

The Shield

How about Star Trek:TNG? Great cast that worked fantastically together. And I don't know if anyone else knows this, but unlike TOS, they all really enjoyed working together and a lot of those actors are still friends. Apparently a lot of them bought houses near each other in Hollywood so they could be near each other. It's hard to get chemistry like that.

Cheers spawned Night Court and Frazier...

AKA
01-02-2007, 01:14 PM

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned - I am a big fan of shows where casts remain together from start to finish, from short lived ones (British and American Office, Scrubs - although they did add someone to the cast, didn't they?) to longer running ones (Fraisier, Seinfeld, I Love Lucy). The original casts of Andy Griffith and MASH stayed strong - Cheers and Mary Tyler Moore adapted with change brilliantly - and I agree with Mojo 100% about Homicide. Roseanne had a strong cast, which couldn't have been easy considering that many of them were children when they started - John Goodman and Roseanne, during their primes, were pretty fierce.

When I keep coming back to "best," however, I do keep coming back around to Arrested Development for sitcom and Twin Peaks for drama.

[quote ] Cheers spawned Night Court and Frazier...

Frasier, obviously. Night Court? Simply not true. Yeah, Harry "the Hat" Gittes and Judge Harry T. Stone were based on the same character, but it was the all the same character Harry Anderson had been doing in his stand-up routine for years. They weren't the same guy. There was another spinoff from Cheers called The Tortellis that lasted about 15 minutes. It was based around the great Dan Hedaya's Nick Tortelli and that blond broad that was his wife. It sucked, hence it got pulled.

And I think M*A*S*H has to take the best ensemble cast ever, right? Maybe The Honeymooners, but there were really only the 4 main characters and Gleason did dominate. M*A*S*H had a cast of, like 15 or so, all who got fairly equal time, and there were several major cast changes and I would argue that they didn't slow the show down. Plus it had all-time great peripheral characters like Col. Flagg and Dr. Sidney Freedman. I think M*A*S*H is the big winner here, folks.

And The Soprano's is also a great cast, but it's really Tony/Gandolfini that drives the show. With M*A*S*H, and I think we can all agree that Hawkeye is the main character of the show, if Hawk wasn't in it you would still have compelling TV that could stand on its own. The other characters had lives that existed outside of Hawkeye's influence. With The Soprano's, it all still comes back to Tony: Christopher's drug use, Fat Vito's pole smoking, Paulie's mah. The only reason we give a shit is the effect these things have on Tony and how he handles them.

My current favorite is Entourage. But would say all time Seinfeld. Friends and 90210. I just loved that show.

It was a show here in England back in the late 90's that lasted for three seasons. For an English show it did spur some carrers of people who have made it over there accross the pond. It was a late night satirical show that was great for 2 years and then the started tinkering with the format.

The Line up included the two main presenters. Iain Lee and Daisy Donavan. Daisy Hosted a show in the US called Daisy does America. Iain Lee is a super talented radio host who is making waves over here on London radio station LBC. However it's the cast of supporting characters that is quite amazing.

The show started the Career of Sacha Baron Cohen and gave us an introduction to the Ali G character. Ricky Gervais who went onto make the Office and Extras was also a regular contributing guest. He wasn't at all well known at the time either. The final person is Mackenzie Crook who played Gareth in the Office and went on to Ragetti in the pirates of the caribean.

A bump for this thread for getting mentioned in a replay this weekend.

A bump for this thread for getting mentioned in a replay this weekend.

This Was Only Fat's 2nd Thread...The First One Was More Than A Year Before!! (If Memory Serves).

It Is Also the First Thread Where Epo Yelled At F_S: :D

You never heard of Entourage? Honestly you should stop wasting our time and throw your TV away.

And Yesterday's Replay Was The First Time F_S Heard Ronnie B. Talk About It, And Ronnie Even Thanked F_S For Bringing "Positivity" To RF.Net! This Will Have To Go On Fat's Resume' !

Also, Because Of A Mistake F_S Later Corrected, This Thread Is Very Valuable, In The Way The Postage Stamp With The Mis-Printed Upside-Down Airplane Is Valuable. The Key Is In The First Couple Of Posts!

Am I the only one who wanted to bang the hell out of Suzanne Pleshette?

drjoek finds it scary when F_S types in the first person.

Newsradio, every single cast member nailed it, even Andy Dick. But the Root, Foley, Hartman threesome- fuck yeah.

And even though it's a cartoon, I have to give some props to The Simpsons.
