I always thought that for a TV movie. Gotti was superb.

Once Upon a Time In America is my favourite if that counts. Althought it's not the Italian Mafia it was still a mob movie.

I have to admit Im really not into the Godfather movies. Just never found them that great. Maybe its b/c they jump around too much.

But to me Goodfellas and a Bronx tale are great.

My blue heaven was funny, not a classic but great comedy.

So was Johnny Dangerously

However, that might be considered more of a prison movie than a mob/gang movie. Close call though...

I don't think too many movies of any genre will ever top "Goodfellas" in my book.

All of them. I never saw a mob movie I didn't like.

In case it's not mentioned though, Pulp Fiction had organized crime even though it's not your traditional Italian based mob movie.

I can't picture Brando with a big red ball in his mouth although when he talked it sounded like he had little balls in his mouth.

It gets absolutely no love on this board, but the best mob movie I've ever seen that didn't feature John Cazale is Mean Streets.

TRUE ROMANCE.

I won't say I think it's the best other than the big three though. A different angle...hilarious and violent.

GODFATHER I&II and GOODFELLAS are obviously the best. I'm tempted to throw in RESERVOIR DOGS but then I'd also have to throw in PULP FICTION. While there were no mob "wars" in these films the characters (Joe in RESERVOIR and M. Wallace in PULP FICTION) had organizations. I'll admit that saying these two Tarantino films are mafia movies would be stretching it.

TRUE ROMANCE puts the mob in a dark comedy. And if it hadn't been for O&A talking about it one day I never would have rented it...based on the title. Totally surprised at how good it was. Great film. When your expectations are exceeded it's better than having them merely met. TRUE ROMANCE and RESERVOIR DOGS both greatly exceeded my expectations.

1. Tom Cruise was under consideration for the role of Joe Pistone/Donnie in Donnie Brasco. What a disaster that would have been.

2. Though I probably agree with the Sharon Stone comment, she did win an academy award for that role.

3. Best Mob Movie ever: GOODFELLAS. Everything else is a distant second...
Tenbatsuzen wrote:

I liked Casino, but Depp was really, really good in Brasco.
