Pelosi is Speaker, Reid is Senate Majority leader. There is rhetoric about "bi partanship" but will alot be accomplished or will it be a do nothing congress leading up to the 2008 elections ? One of their priorities is to raise the min. wage but theres going to be alot of bickering between the White House and the hill

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=elections&id=4906143

You've gotta give this Congress a chance. The great thing for America is that with a Dem Congress & a Republican President is that it forces bi-partisanship to get things done.

Now let's see if they can get things done....

I'm pretty sure that Bush or someone from the administration has already said they support a minimum wage increase. That's probably just a pre-emptive white flag on an issue they don't want to fight right now.

Plus the fact that a lot of states already have minimum wages laws that are higher now then what the fed wage is. So showing "bi partisanship" on raising the minimum wage will make the republicans look like team players without doing much. So we can go to the voters and say "Look, we played ball with the democrats on the minimum wage, but they want to <insert favorite gripe we repubs have about dems> and won't negotiate at all!"

I just got home like 20 minutes ago, and Sean Hannity and Bob Beckel (filling in for Alan Colmes) is on. The dems have had power for what now, 12 hours? and the bitch-fest is heating up already. CNN's Crossfire was the first douchey show for the screamfests, but Hannity and Colmes have to be the worst.

After all, in the grand scheme of things, do we REALLY care if congressman Ellison swore an oath to the Constitution with his hand on the Koran instead of a Bible? I mean, as a Christian, as long as that congressman OBEYS the Constitution, I have no worries. Right?

Thats right, they went in for a full day on Tuesdays and did a partial day on Wednesdays. And that was it. Now I almost regret them losing power. Except that the little work they did, I wasn't a big fan of.

Ellison pulled a slick move. He was sworn in on a copy of the Quran that was once owned by Thomas Jefferson.

That is pretty cool. I wish someone else could've sworn in simultaneously next to Ellison using a Bible, and broadcast that to the rest of the world to show people with different religions can work together without blowing each other up.

But again, opportunity blown.

I don't think they have to raise taxes. I think just cutting spending will do. From what I heard, the Treasury is raking in the dough, up to 85 billion dollars a day.

Wish I had a gimmick to make money like that.

I think that both parties will never truley get together. Unless of courrse, another 9/11 like attack, to bring congress and America together for a little while, till someone makes a decision on how to handle it. Whether the decision is right or wrong.
