Tonight one of my good friends found out her friend from childhood passed away in October. The last time she had spoken to her was at the end of September. She sent a package to her and left countless voice-mail messages for her after that. So today she decided to use a database at work to see if she had changed her phone number or had moved. She found the records and it said deceased. She even looked up the obit in the paper but it didn't list the cause. She was only 38 and was healthy. She had just had a baby in Feb 06. We're thinking since it was someone so young it had to be an accident or a freak thing like an aneurysm. We're so hoping it wasn't murder or suicide.

My friend tried calling the police there (North Carolina) and they said they couldn't give out information like that. My friend is going to write a letter to her boyfriend and to her sisters (she doesn't feel comfortable calling them out of the blue like this) and it may take some time before she finds out how her friend died.

Does anyone know anyone or anyway she could find out how her friend died? Perhaps someone knows someone who has access to records like that?

I would SO appreciate any help anyone could give.

http://vitalrecords.dhhs.state.nc.us/vr/requests/

That's the site for the North Carolina Vital Records division. She will need to know the city and date of death and full name. Perhaps that is in the obituary?

I know in Connecticut, Death records are public. I am not sure about NC.

What city did she live in? If it was an auto accident you could probably find something in the online version of the local paper.
