I think we all can admit that, for a variety of reasons, comedy pyramids haven't been as successful on XM as they were when R&F were on NEW or JFK. The phones first and foremost, the nationwide audience hasn't caught on as quick, maybe too many hayseeds, but we haven't gotten any where near as many classics as before.

Given that, and that Ron has said that the FreeFM will only be a local NY show, do you think that we'll see comedy pyramids on XM again, or will it be FreeFM only, etc.

While I think it's very possible that we'll only hear comedy pyramids on the FreeFM show, I think XM will still have some comedy pyramids but we'll hear more on FreeFM.

What do you think?

You made my brain hurt.

But eventually, I picked "both, but mostly on free fm" because theyll be better on free fm, but I think comedy pyramids just kinda happen spontaneoulsy, so theres no telling where they might pop up.

I always thought that Fez or Ron saw something in the paper or news, thought they could make a good comedy pyramid, brainstormed a while for some good examples to start off the pyramid or keep it going, and then scheduled it for a part of the show.

The only pyramid I thought was spontaneous was the Jeffrey Jones/Ed Rooney comedy pyramid.

It occurred to me last night that some comedy pyramids may be better suited for XM than FreeFM, and thus, XM should still have pyramids. For instance, while the Simpson family christmas songs pyramid didn't fly all that well on XM, it may still be better on XM because it won't be censored.

And yes, while R&F did pyramids on WNEW and JFK that had to be censored, the standards then aren't as tough as they are now. So even those pyramids may not be able to played on terrestrial radio now. So we'll still probably have them on both.

The pyramids thrive when the audience is attuned to the wit and humor of the show. I think they were attempted a bit prematurely on XM when the majority of the audience thought Ron and Fez were "Opie and Anthony Part 2" or something.

Once a core audience is formed the pyramids build themselves.

I'm an XMer, but I don't think the southern folk have quite caught the subtleties of the Comedy Pyramid. Leave it to Free FM...they get the idea.

I said on both, but I really must say this because It is really, really pissing me off with all these Damn New Yorkers. New York is not the Greatest Place on earth. Who the hell wants to live in a town that doesn't even have enough room for you go out and Drive like mad. I mean what about the Open road. Stop and think about things before you speak. New york city may be a nice place, but there are plenty of nicer places out in this country and New York city is only like 0.5% of the USA in area if even that.

Sure, some here may think that, but no one said it (I think).

Here's what we meant by this thread. For years, Ron & Fez had a local NY show here that did very well, and had tremendous comedy pyramids. Then they moved to DC and had a local show there that did very well there too, which also produced a number great comedy pyramids.

On XM, they have a national audience, and while they have been doing great, the comedy pyramids haven't been as great as they were on two previous local shows for a variety of reasons (phones, timing of starting pyramids).

So, now they have a local show again (along with the national show). So given the history, the question is how R&F deal with the comedy pyramids going forward.
