There are not too many cheap places on manhatten. But if you don't mind sleeping in dorms, you can probably stay in a hostel for like 30 bucks a night.

Try the Greenpoint YMCA. I live about 5 blocks away and use the gym there. Room rates are cheap and the hood is safe. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60827-d566614-Reviews-YMCA_Greenpoint-Brooklyn_New_York.html

You can try the approach of using hotwire/priceline and searching the betterbidding.com forums to find out what bid works on what hotel.

Honestly, if you're looking for cheap and not YMCA/Hostel levels, your best bet is to stay in a nice hotel near the train in Jersey and/or the NYC suburbs.

mooch, i know i emailed you a few places, but try the sheraton in Hoboken. it is cheap and a 20 min. ferry ride to the city.

I apologize in advance, but I can't use the link button, so cut and paste:

This is a great deal. I would look on craig's list. If you have any questions about location, price, etc, feel free to pm me, and I'll tell you if it's a good deal/decent place or not.
<> no homo.
10 days in manahatty will not be cheap even at the cheapest place. I would suggest staying in North Jersey and that will still cost you $70-$80 a night. Hostel would be your best bet or you can sleep in grand central.

The best deal in Manhatten I've found is the Beacon, 75th at Broadway. Decent hotel although it is noisey if your room is on the street side. You can usually get rooms for less than $300 a night, and sometimes less than $200. The Hotel Lucerne is another good place and is relatively affordable. The rooms are pretty small though, and some rooms are really nice while others are still awaiting renovation. It's in the same part of town as the Beacon- on 78th or 79th I think, a block off Broadway. Also there's the Belvedere, which is affordable considering its proximity to Times Square (W 48th), but you'd definitely be paying for location there. Not worth the price otherwise. There's another decent place at an OK price on the east side near the hospitals, but I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. I'll come back to the thread if I think of it. Or you could stay in NJ and pay half the price for a room that is as good or better.

Bentley hotel on 62nd and York? I work next doors. It looks like it'd be
cheap, at least from the outside.

If your gonna be staying in midtown, the cheapest place to park that i've found is here: Goto Primary Parking on 10th St.

http://www.iconparking.com/Midtown_West.asp?sSrc=ExpressParking_addfind.asp

you can reserve space online in advance.

Comfort Inn in LIC - seedy neighborhood but close to the city and usually relatively cheap. Sometimes the Comfort Inn at 28th and Park is good too.

Catch a Rangers game and stalk the cast if CSI:NY. I'll go for the walk over of O&A (even though my 'fanship' is dwindling) and wait around until 11:58 to catch Mr. B comming in.

I figure with acommodations and a Rangers game coupled with a few nice meals I should come with 10 thousand or so

Last time I visited NY, I stayed at the Riverside Hotel. The room was small, but I only needed it for a bed and shower. It was around $90/night.

http://www.riversidetowerhotel.com
