Which do you use?

As in:

"I have to deal with a bunch of assholes Monday through/thru Friday."

I actually was made fun of by someone today for using the proper spelling. When I told her that I was right she looked at me like I was crazy. She'd never seen it spelled: "through" in her life.

And don't even get with started with the asshats that write it as "threw".

I always use through. Although thru is an accepted informal spelling, for some reason it has always bugged me. I understand using it where space is a concern (like marking the pavement for a Drive-Thru), but not in normal vernacular.

It's probably because my Mom was a teacher who used to beat me with a spelling book.

I use "thru" as a type of shorthand, but I find it hard to believe that any adult would be unfamiliar with the proper spelling. You should buy the chick who mocked you a dictionary, Smails.

I write "through", and only use, like a few others "thru" as in drive-thru
But only when I am thorough, and on Thursday. Know what word I hate? "Thoroughfare"

Yeah, the ol' drive thru gimmick. Otherwise, it's through.

I can't stand people who can't spell and who spell short-hand. Sure an error is one thing but to out right misspell a word because of laziness or whatever is completely uncalled for.

It's spelled through. There's no two ways about it, just like goodnight is n-i-g-h-t not n-i-t-e.

It's through for everything except somethings at work. When I write up a transmittal I write "plans M-1 thru M-7". This I learned to do because way back when I first started, I wrote through and was told no it's thru. Never questioned it.
