I loved Otis, but Earnest T. was just much more of an interesting character. Earnest T. was played by an actor/writer named Howard Morris. Howard was a regular on Sid Ceasar's Show of Shows, many years ago. On the "Show of Shows" with Sid Ceasar, he collaborated with some of the most amazing geniuses of American Comedy our time; Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Carl Reiner and Neil Simon (where could you get a lineup like that today?). This was probably the Golden Age of American Television Comedy.

Howard Morris was an amazing physical comedian. The characters that he came up with were so hysterically funny, that that is how he got the recurring role of Ernest T. in Andy Griffith (5 episodes). Other memorable appearances would be the Sissy Court Spokesman in Mel Brooks' film "History of the World Part I". He has done so much work, from cartoon voices to commercials. All truly amazing. And get this, he is a native New Yorker, born right here in Manhattan!!!

I liked it when the Darlings would come down from the Mountain and jam Bluegrass style!!! Uncle Jesse from the Dukes of Hazard was the Patriarch of the Darlings - Cool Hillbilly Trivia.
