So you have to have children to be a real woman??

This coming from a very liberal Democrat!!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/01122007/postopinion/editorials/boxers_low_blow_editorials_.htm?page=0

From the article it sounds like she crtizied Rice because she has no children to send to Iraq to fight. This is nothing new, it gets pointed out all the time that the people who put together the Iraq war have no children involved in it. I don't understand what point you're trying to make, and why are you linking political news stories from the NY Post, isn't that the gossip paper?

from what I read, it doesnt say anything about being a real women or needing children. What she was saying is true. Rice, Bush and the rest of them will not lose anything personal in this war because they dont have any children fighting over there that can die. She pointed out that her own chilfdren were too old and her grandchildren were too young.

I have no problem what she said. Shes right, the people that make all these decisions never have any child in harms way. Its much easier to go to war and have americans get killed when none of them will ever be related to you.

OK, every one is missing my point. Let me get this straight right off the bat, I am not an advocate of "right to life".

I just believe it is very hypocritical to criticize some one for making the choice to not have children and at the same time, endorse late term abortion.

Believe me, I am not happy with the direction the war has been going.

Ms. Rice, I speculate, realized early in life that she wouldn' t be a good mother and chose the path she is now on, where some women in this country didn't and chose other avenues, and now have to live with those decisions.

Please don't get me wrong, I have no idea what women have to go through as far as child birth or the decisons they must make when mistakes have been made, I just believe Ms. Rice doesn't need to be criticized for her choose not to be a mother.

Boxer was trying to get off the point that the political class are not the ones fighting. A good point, the problem is in trying to use "politician speak" the other side was able to parse the words making them sound like an insult to women who have not chosen the kiddy path.Instead of this being an argument about the gov't sending other peoples kids to die Boxer's comments have changed the whole focus. As history has taught perception is reality

I just noticed this is the NY Post. Owned by Rupert Murdoch. The same piece of shit who's media empire cheerled us into the Iraq war and then spent the next three years trying to convince us that everything was going dandy but the "mainstream media" was making things look worse than it was because they're all "liberal" and hate America. And now that America has finally aknowledged that Iraq has turned to shit - and was fucked up by the administration from the beginning - this is their fucking cover story? This is bitchy notes between two high school girls. WHO GIVES A FUCK?! You know what I want to know about? Why does America still accept the fact that this motherfucker is still one of the three dominant sources of news for this country? Why the fuck haven't the American people driven that piece of kangaroo shit out of the fucking country with pitchforks and torches?

Seriously, why are you all even talking about this story? Honest question.

Here's exactly what Barbara Boxer said:

"Now, the issue is who pays the price, who pays the price? I’m not going to pay a personal price. My kids are too old, and my grandchild is too young. You’re not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, within immediate family. So who pays the price? The American military and their families, and I just want to bring us back to that fact.”

I don't see anything that says a people without kids can't have an opinion on the war in Iraq. She says that the people who pay the 'ultimate price' are those with children in the military. Does anyone dispute that? And she even starts out using herself as an example. Is she saying that she herself has no right to an opinion about the Iraq War? Is she insulting herself?

Just another example of the media making a story out of nothing ....

So wars are only fought by people who have a vested interest in them ?

Like one of the characters said in The Patriot with Mel Gibson " Wars aren't fought only by men w/out children "

Way I see it a lot of people have died in a lot of conflicts under administrations in which the " ruling class " didnt have a lot of foot soldiers.

A whole lot of Union and Confederate soldiers dies fighting for something they really would've rathered not being a part of.

Same goes for WWII. You think the average Joe American wanted to go fight the Germans ?

Maybe something could be said for the Japanese after Pearly Harbor but even then I bet a lot of guys would've rather have stayed home with their families than go fight " somebody else's war ".

While George Bush clearly doesnt have his daughters in Iraq I dont recall seeing Chelsea Clinton wearing any gear in Somalia, Haitii or Bosnia.

Where was the outrage about soldier-less politicians then or any other time the same thing happened with Reagan, Carter, etc ...

There's no draft. If you dont wanna be in harms way dont join the military.

Disband the whole thing and we'll worry about what happens after the fact.

I'm in no way in favor of whats going on over there but this argument that only politicians should have sons in the military is ridiculous.

That's give us what about 2000 soldiers ?

And we're alos now supposed to take a popular vote on what we should and shoulnt go to war for ?

Should we do it like American Idol ?

Everybody calls in a decides next steps ?

The problem is too many people think of the military as a social welfare program that teaches a trade and gives you free college.

Unfortuantely those things occasionally have a proce tag attached to them and that price is going to war.

It sucks but for the most part each and every one of the men and women over there had a say in whether or not they should be there.

I am the absolute last person on earth to stick up for the Republican party or he current administration. I do, however, find it very funny this woman claims she has nothing to lose because her kids are too old. Yet she knows full damn well it wouldn't make a difference what age they were, and that considering the fact that she is a U.S. Senator they wouldn't be going anywhere even if they were 18 years of age. Yet somehow this bitch thinks that she can comfortably call out Rice because she doesn't have kids.
