I've decided to watch American Idol this season.  Honestly, that is nothing any of you should care about.  I'm doing it as an experiment.  I've never watched a full episode of the show, and what I have seen has generally been the stuff in the early stages with bad singers getting abused.  Everything about the show just seems godawful to me, so I've never felt the need to watch.  People love it, though.  I understand that even a really cheesy reality show can suck you in if done well.  So here's my experiment.  I will watch the show, and give it a minimum of 8 episodes.  If at all possible, I'll watch the whole season.  I want to see if something that from the outside looks like it will hold absolutely no interest for me sucks me in like it seems to for every other person in this country.  If I do end up getting sucked in, will it be one of those things where I acknowledge that it's awful but I can't look away, or will I end up legitimately enjoying the show?  Any fellow American Idol haters want to join me in my experiment?

It amazes me how Fox could come up with such brilliant shows like 24 or Rescue Me (on Fx channel) and then come up with such crap as American Idol

i'm in, but i have no choice.  my wife likes it, so i'm forced to watch.  though i usually am sitting at the computer so it isn't so bad.  by the time they have actual contestants i've heard enough of each that i do end up having a favorite i hope wins.

I HATE this show. My wife has to watch it EVERY FREAKING YEAR. So does all my family. Whenever I go home and it's on they stare at it. No clue what the draw is. It will be on my TV but the XM on my computer will be wide open. Hopefully I can avoid it for the whole season. Got to take it one day at a time.

The only mildy redeeming part is the begining with the bad singers. Beyond that it's a glorified karaoke competition.  That and the people that try to string along bad singers into late rounds of the competition.  And yeah my wife watches it, so I end up watching it to to some extent.

My wife watches that show religiously..... Mikey, I will join in on your experiment. I will tell her I'll watch this season with her so we can have some 'us' time where we cuddle on the couch and watch the show.She'll think I'm great and doing this for her......Brownie points.........really Mikey, I'm doing it for you.sssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Some people may think watching sci fi unrealistic shit to be crap. To each his own. I watch American Idol for a few reasons. Its funny watching some of the bad singers get torn up. I love all types of music and hearing some of it brings back good memories and makes you want to go listen to a cd or whatever. Seeing a career being made is a great too. I owned an entertianment marketing company and also worked for some other companies, even thought this isnt exactly how most people start their career its still gives you an idea of training, ups and downs etc. Another thing is the hotties. Nothing better then watchng hot women.

I got through 48 minutes then had to turn it off, just after crackbaby.  Crackbaby.  Great.  What if she does make it far?  Into the final rounds?  She will still be known as "crackbaby".What I can't stomach about this show is that is shows a growing problem of extreme proportions in our country today.  Kids just can't hear the word "No".  If your kid can't sing, your kid can't sing.  The ones who show up to those auditions themselves and want to make an idiot of themselves?  Fine.  But it's the ones that so obviously can't sing who are there with their familes that really kill me.  They stink, but their family can't say to them, hey - you can't sing - why embarass yourself?  Thier kids are crying because Simon told them they were awful and then the kid turns to the camera and blames the judges.  If they weren't surrounded by yes-men, they'd probably wake up to reality sooner and avoided looking like an idiot.But hey, it brings in the ratings!Awful.

And if you seen to coming attractions it looks great. The disgusting thing people that are going to be on the show tonight will be great. As for the comercials, def tivo it. You can watch the 2 hours in about 1 hour, thats what I do.Mikey one thing you will notice: at first you will think the show is stupid yet your laughing at the bad acts and enjoy that. Then they will show you someone with talent and you will be like wow he/she was good. You will then try to look for the ones you like in hollywood. Once they narrow it donw to the really/semi talented voices you will then find yourself actually enjoying the show and hoping certain people continue to make it. I never thought I would get addictied and I did.

Love the show and have watched since season 1 but it's lost some of its appeal to me.I still watch every year, love the audition shows, but last year once they got into their final 10 I didn't really like anyone so I stopped watching. Every other season before that I was a fan of one of the final 3. I'm hoping they have a more quality batch this year.I liked crack baby but don't think she'll win. And how attractive were the Indian brother and sister? She was so beautiful even I wanted to hit that.

From what I remember from season 2 it gets good when they break into groups and you pick your favorite and cheer for them every week. That's the only season I watched with any regularity. I did pick it up last year and thought it was good...until Chris Daughtry was voted off. Then it sucked again. So I really only watched 3 weeks of last years.But yeah, when you pick 'your guy' you will start to enjoy it.Bigger question is "how long till these auditions are over?" I only watch the show for you Mikey.... These background shows sorta payoff once you get down to the actual competition. I actually kinda enjoyed it once it got down to the elimination rounds, but it moves at a snails pace.  Oh yeah, you can't tell me you are not looking forward to Abba day.   Who gets to choose from their spectacular catalog after waterloo, dancing queen, and fernando are gone?

I'm not watching this season, but i caught last night's elimination show since my wife had it recorded. I like this Gina chick. She put that asshole Seacrest in his place last night. Of course, he had to try and be funny and edgy and stir up some rumors. When she and a male contestant were called up on stage and they came up holding hands, Seacrest had to say "so, how close are you" to which she basically said shut the fuck up, but in a nice way. She said "stop it, my boyfriend is upstairs." I hate how they have to try and be edgy and cause controversy. It's a lousy singing competition show. Get over yourselves!

He could. He's done it before. The original show, Pop Idol, in England, also had a voting system that Simon felt was just too out of control. He walked away.

What he'll probably do is drop the audience voting and bring in some new judges and their vote counts only.

Given the margin of error, dialidol is kind of a crapshoot. The person with the projected lowest votes is rarely the one actually voted off. Also, last week, they predicted only one contestant as being safe.

They did get it right in a big, big way, but most weeks they have the majority of the contestants as "not safe", and are rarely right in picking the lowest vote getter, given the margin of error.

I guess you people didnt listen to the show. Newscorp is donating .10 for every call up to 50 million calls and a max donation of $5million.

As for who will win. I think Melinda has the voice and should win, but she doesnt have a the looks and shes not remarketable. Think about this, she has been a background singer for years and to some of the best known talent in the industry. Someone had to hear her voice before and people knew she could sing,but she just doesnt have the it. Its ashame b/c she does have a great voice.

I think Blake has a shot b/c the tweens and teens love him, but when its all said and done it will probably be Jordin.

Since the Ron & Fez show isn't on this week, I guess I better get my update up here before the show gets too far underway...

I think Lakisha is going to realize some time down the line, if she hasn't already, is that she fucked up. This competition was hers to lose. Since she came in and did that song from Dreamgirls (the same on Earl did at the Big Ass Bash), she was a pretty clear frontrunner with Melinda being the only one who could be considered her equal. Something happened 3 or 4 weeks ago (maybe latin week) when she started making poor song choices and really not showing off her talents. I wouldn't be surprised at all if she didn't even make the top three now.

As Lakisha slid, Jordin soared up through the ranks, making smart choices and wowing the judges. Six weeks ago she was a dark horse to win. Now she's threatening Melinda to win it all.

Phil Stacey went from regular bottom finisher to favorite among the men once he found his strength in doing country songs. I think he's got a shot to be the top finishing male, depending partly on what songs he chooses over the next couple of weeks. The thing he has against him, is that he's not a cuddly little boy band muppet like Blake and Chris, so that might hurt him with 14 year old girl voters. Also, I want to smack him in the side of the head every time I see him wear one of those cockeyed, oversized hats.

I think Chris Richardson is gone tonight. If not him, then maybe Lakisha. Right now, my prediction is that the top three finishers will be Jordin, Melinda and Phil. Lakisha could get right back in it with a good week next week (if she's not kicked off tonight).
