I'm a newbie troller, but have been listening since early WNEW days. Well, I have enjoyed ESD more than maybe any other producer the show has had. ESD's departure has left a lot of suspicion. The show continues to take calls on the air about the entire incident, which is a little odd. So I still believe this is a bit.

As for how this will end it all has to do with the Nature Boy. In 1990 Ric Flair wore a mask and wrestled as Black Scorpion to hide his identity during a feud with Sting. Another great example is when Owen Hart made a tearful apology and left the WWF only to return as the Blue Blazer. So obviously you can see where I'm going with this. I think there will be an interesting new producer at the end of this week.

I'm terrible at guessing these things, but I see Dave as "staying gone" in the sense that he hangs around and shows up as a frequent guest but doesn't officially work for the XM show anymore.

1. Dave's humor largely revolves around the stories he tells and the things they can get him to do. I think R&F might be worried that both of those threads are getting kind of frayed, and that leaves Dave as a board-op who doesn't know how to run the board. Maybe Dave needs to conserve however many bits are left in him.

2. Pitz and Johnny could both use promotions, and the Buddays seem to enjoy staying in touch with old friends and coworkers. So there's a pool of show-familiar talent that could take over quickly.

3. Dave's a funny guy, but, I'd suspect, a lazy bastard who can't handle working 12p-9p every day (plus whatever XM show prep he does). I wouldn't be surprised if they think he's funnier or fresher right off the blocks. Perhaps the extended schedule isn't washing with West Side either. (Or who knows.)

4. As a caller mentioned yesterday, less Dave means more Fez. As Fez gets stronger, his "old Fez" days get more frequent and more manic, and I think Ron would like to encourage that.

5. Having Dave as an ex-employee that still has access to XM air opens up all sorts of feuds between the XM staff and the FM staff as Dave either schemes to get his old job back or tries to tear other people down a la Earl. I think the two wrestling fans could appreciate the story line possibilities of Dave spending at least a few months trying to get back in.

I think them taking calls about the situation has to do with the way he left the show. It was all on air, so there's nothing to hide about it. If he had quit or been fired behind the scenes, not talking about it on air would be the right thing to do, but this is different.

I should add that I don't have access to the FM show, so if I just said something that's been directly contradicted in the evening, then I'm an ass and that's that.

No the stuck was sarcasm. I love ESD. R&F need that guy they can pick on as 3rd mic. I mean that's what Fezzie was when he was down in Florida. So by slamming what ESD is and does you're slamming Fezzie in a backwards sort of way.
I missed your sarcasm but my point still stands. I'd never slam Fezzie, I was making the point that ESD is supposed to be a producer but he spends every second grabbing for the 3rd mic if he has a chance to act like a fool. Fezzie has/had radio history and talent. ESD has neither...and his college radio days don't count. His degree probably doesn't count either...
Thats crap. Fez is funny and ESD is a whipping boy who alienates half the audience.
The point I'm trying to make is that no one comes on to the radio and within a year become a polished personality. Look at Earl, would you say he has a polished and crisp radio personality? Fezzie was a producer for Ron and Ron, and I'm sure he was endlessly picked on by Ron and Fez, just like Dave is. That's how Ronnie runs the show, and the formula has been successful for many years now.

There needs to be someone to be someone who is the butt of the joke or 'heel' on this show. Al Dukes may have done it the best, but now ESD is really making a run at that title. If you hate him and you love it when Ronnie is going crazy on Dave or throwing the cowbell at him, they got you. Then again if you think Dave's personality is great, they got you. The formula they have is flawless.

smleeth
01-17-2007, 03:14 PM

Flawless if you fall into one of those categories. I fall into the category in which I really want to change the channel when ESD goes on a rant (though I tough it out, for now) but I'd find great pleasure in finding out he was finally off the show. I'd also find great pleasure in seeing the "adult" act like a drunken 18-year old in public because he can't handle his booze and still can't figure that fact out. The biggest problem is (and Ron has addressed this more than once) that Dave goes over the top on purpose and tries to top everyone else by being "extreme". That, and his dumbass accents. Oh yeah, and the fact he tosses Earl under the bus at the drop of a hat...Earl has earned his place in radio and is technically ESD's boss.

I'm in the 50% that like the show much better when we don't have to hear him or hear about him.
