EDIT: Generally I never make a move. I really just wait in the background, quiet, lurking until it's the right time to speak. Even if it's just a two person conversation, I don't make any move.

The occasional first move by a lady is always welcome. I usually wait until I'm absolutely sure that it's the right thing, so my first moves usually don't end poorly. The flip side is I've probably missed quite a few "genuine opportunities."
