View Full Version : So, how do I get my music played on the intro bit?
I'm a casual listener (i.e, whenever I'm in my car I have the virus station on). I notice R&F have the independent music thing on the intro to the show. So how can I get on there? http://www.soullip.com - My band Soul Lip from Washington, D.C.

chart before 1972. That's about the only way to get to be the intro song for the show.

wait 20 years or have Munie play it. other than that you can book youyself onto SNL or Letterman, then Earl will play your stuff.

Your band sounds pretty good but I think that SinA is right. The only indie music that gets on the show is from buddies of the show.

I say change the name of your band to sound more 60's or 70's. How about "The Rolling Stones?" That has a catchy tone to it and I can see Earl really coming around and playing something like that.

Earl might play it if it makes it on XM's Top 20 on 20. Thats where I'd start.

I agree with freakshow, you need to have your last song hit the charts 20+ years ago.

You can send it in, phone the show and ask Ronnie why your shit never got played... Say you sent it in 2 months ago and had a response from Earl saying they would DEFINATELY play it on an upcomming show. Ron will get on Earl and you can have your music played.

Or you can just keep plugging away and get signed by a major label....Indie doesn't get played until Earl gets called on it.

Good Luck Budday.

Hey guys. Thanks for the replies. Like I said I am a casual listener so I don't get a chance ot hear a full show often. My XM is only in my car so I'll catch fragments of each days show every time I'm driving. My commute is short so I'm not stuck in traffic. I'll usually catch maybe 20 minutes of the early show, more on the replay in the evening, it's all hit or miss.

I did hear that one episode where he was playing th estones and people were busting on him for it being "independent." i figured I'd inquire about it. I don't mean to come across as such a ron & fez noob.

You had a good question, we answered it the best we could, I don't know if you are more informed now than before (only you really know) but the best thing would be for you to send it in with an explanation of who you are and what you do... It's kind of like job hunting though, You MUST follow up. I was serious when I told you to call and mention that you sent it in. Like the Great Wayne Gretzky said "100% of the shots you don't take don't go in".

Good Luck Bro...

Bro... listening to your music right now and checking out the website. I like what I hear... it's good. 2 points of critisism.

1- If you want to get played by Earl or anyone in non-indie/college radio you need songs with hooks. Got to have 'em. Rule #1.

2- If you have pics of live shows... you GOT to have pics with a crowd in front of you and it's got to be PACKED!!! Shots of band members are good for BIO's but live shots have to have people look at them and think "Shit look at all those people... they got to be good."

Again... I like what I hear. You've just been added to my favorite's. Good luck and Godspeed.
