Opie is definitely the weak one.

If I can play devils advocate for a moment... I do agree with you in terms of 'bringing the funny' but Opie might be more of a behind the scenes kind of guy. His contributions might be more than we realize... I don't know why they will do a show when Jimmy is gone but not when Opie or Anthony is gone. Maybe it is because it will be a fantastic show in Opie's absence.

He does kick in with the occaisional funny line though.

And who can't love a guy who demands his own VIP section, right?

opie is the guy who actually comes up with the bits that made the show what it is.

hes not a comic but you can sometimes hear him at work on-air drivng the show...pushing the boundaries a bit.

Has anyone ever heard the show early on at WNEW when Opie couldn't make it in, so Anthony did the show with Rick, their former producer? By the admission of everyone in involved, it was really awful. Opie may not be the funnyman, but I am convinced that he is the driving force behind keeping the show focused and on track.

I hate these threads that yell about Opie not being good or Earl being worthless. These shows cannot be as big as they are without these guys really knowing what they are doing in the business coupled with being really talented. OandA are a huge radio show and they would never be as big as they are without Opie or Jimmy or Steve or whoever.

I had to think back, and remembered Opie telling the little boy on the phone that there was no Santa, and then I realized he belongs there. I don't think the show would work well without him.

I think opie sucks. He may be amazing "behind the scenes" or the "driving force of the show" but on air he is terribly unfunny. He is not a fucking genius. His only contribution on air is being a dick and smashing things or hanging up on people. Its all insecurity over knowing he is not a "performer" like norton and ant-nee. Just an opinion.

Snacks must agree with fat. Opie sucks. His ego is bigger then Howards. I think the new name for o&a really is Q&A for Queer and Anthony. Anthony is funny and Norton is great. But I could do without Opie. If he makes the show run smoothly then let him be the producer and never heard from.

I just wanted to agree with others in here about how important Opie is.

He's not cracking constant jokes and that was never his job. His role is a more silent one but noticable if you're paying attention. If you think 3 guys trying to 1-up the other all day with jokes is a good way for the show to progress, I think you'd be unpleasntly surprised on what that would sound like.

Opie's job is just as important as Anthony's.

I just wish Opie would stop with the whole "O&A Experience" BS. It's a radio show.

On a side note, my chick got me Sirius for X-mas and as much as I hate to admit it, Stern is hilarious lately. Artie's recent spiral into obesity and heroin has made for some tremendously funny radio.

Its annoying that anyone who doesnt like opie is accused of "not understanding the show" or "not paying attention." People who dont get the show would be more inclined to dislike norton or ant because of what they say and the jokes they make. Only frequent listeners would get as annoyed with opie. Its okay to say that opie is the straw that stirs the drink but quit acting like he is sooooo "gifted" at what he does. And STOP saying that anthony or jimmy would not be funny without him. That is bullshit. Of all the 202 staff on both shows it is interesting that Opie seems to be the odd man out that people dont like or find funny whatsoever.

Opie's job on the show is not "joke teller/improv" guy. That was, is, and always will be the job of Anthony. Anyone that recalls the pre-Norton days will remember the flow of the show back then. To Opie's credit, he knows he's not the funny guy, and doesn't try to be.

Every once in a while Opie seems to let Anthony and Norton go on with a bit too long, and you can just listen to it die a slow death. They just end up going with movie references, and it's awful. That's a rare occurence because Opie has a very good sense of when to end bit/change direction.

I always though Opie is a lot like Stern in that way. I never thought Stern was funny at all, but he did a great job of running the show, and all the characters involved. Opie does essentially the same thing.

Opie has been in the business most of his life, I would consider him kind of like the Boss of the Show. Anthony and Norton add the humor which has a good balance to the show

Gonna make it simple for you folks. just like good ribs , that's how the O&A show is, Ant and Jimmy are the parts you love but Opie is the part that makes it able to enjoy the goodness

First off, you can't have O&A without the O.

And whoever said it earlier, nailed it...Opie is responsible for most of the cringe radio bits which are most of their trademark ones.

That said, there's definitely stuff that annoys me about him. Mostly, it has to do with the guy coming across as a complete egomaniac.

When O&A go off on tangents about their ratings, or behind the scenes stuff, or Stern, or other radio show hosts, it's almost always Opie driving it into the ground and beyond. He can't let it go, and its just a waste of time more often than not.
