There are two fairly major arteries in Queens named after these two people, and I, for one, would like to know why. I googled and wiki'd them but the answer was not immediately obvious, mostly just various businesses with addresses on those roads, and I'm honestly too lazy to dig. I was hoping one of the many knowledgable personages hereabouts would be able to shed some light on it for me.

Francis Lewis, along with William Floyd (of William Floyd Parkway fame), Philip Livingston, and Lewis Morris, were the New Yorkers who signed the Declaration of Independence. He is also signed the Articles of Confederation.

http://www.usconstitution.net/declarsigndata.html

I can't find anything on Guy R. Brewer, or Bronx Jerome.

New York was nicknamed 'The Empire State" to reflect it's vast wealth and variety of resources.
