right.

I think Quadrophenia is my #1 also, and my favorite song is from that album too. Maybe "Drowned" or "5:15"... no, it's "I'm One." But the rest of the songs are great too. I know R&F have done something about the best double album, and I'm sure this was at or near the top.

I saw them play Quadrophinia in Philly in 1998 or 1999, and it was really awesome. If I wasn't there with my mom I probably would have gotten fucked up, which might have made it better or worse. Either way, Pete said that it was the first time they'd ever done the whole thing right.

In my much younger days, I loved "Who's Next", but now "Who Sell Out" is my favorite. It's an odd concept for a record, especially for the times, but it really works all the way through. Kind of an out there pick, but I really like "I Can't Reach You".

Pete Townshend's solo album EMPTY GLASS...was pretty damn good as well. But the lyrics on ROUGH BOYS seem a bit frightening now.

at around age 14 I had a portable 8-trak player i took to the local park(Hamilton Park) in Jersey City. I had a Who tape and as it turns out i met a new friend and he never heard of the Who till i came around with the radio and the Who became his favorite all-time band

he was a polish kid named Fran and he was 13. he later became known as Frankie Drugs or we'd call him Francesca and say it like they would say it in the Mad Monster Party. at 15 he had his own apt in his grandparents house and we lifted weights, smoked bones, and drank beers

his aunt lived upstairs and she was a hottie

what was this thread about again?

I loved "Who's Next" but classic rock stations ruined it for me. "Who Sell Out" is such an underrated album. It's hard to choose a favorite album and song. My brother still has an original WPLJ bumper sticker that says The Who on it. Actually I should say my parents left it on the door that was his room. I'll take a pic of it this weekend and post it for those who can't remember when WPLJ along with WNEW and WAPP(!) were actually great ROCK stations!

Nice choices! Yeah, "Sell Out" is VERY underrated! A basic concept of listening to a BBC radio station. The jingles are great! Faves : Tattoo, Our Love Was, Sunrise. '67 was a very good year for the early "concept" album (Sgt. Pepper, Pet Sounds, Sell Out) My fave WHO album from the '60's. I like "Tommy", but LOVE "Sell Out".

As for QUAD, there is nothing more musically perfect in my mind then the last 3 songs (side 4) Dr. Jimmy, The Rock, & Love Reign O'er Me. They just make me smile every time I always loved the live version of "Drowned" from the '82 tour. Reworked and faster with Pete singin' and Roger on harmonica. Awesome!

And yes , I do remember the old WPLJ, WNEW, & WAPP. All were great. WAPP was my fave. One of the first stations to mix older bands with newer ones.

There's a brand new 2DVD set called "Amazing Journey" coming out in a few weeks.
VH1 is going to air the first disc the first weekend of Nov.

Just watched Amazing Journey: The Story of The WHO on VH1. It was commercial free for 2 hours. It was the first DVD of 2 DVD set (3 DVD's at Best Buy) that comes out Tues. (Nov. 6)

It was great! It told the COMPLETE story of the band, with new interviews with Daltrey, Townshend, Sting, Noel Gallager, The Edge, Eddie Vedder, and others.

What was great was that the music used was mostly lesser known WHO songs! Yeah, there were the standards. There was also quite a bit of unseen footage!

If you're a casual fan, or a die-hard, check this out! VH1 Classic will be re-airing it throughout the week.

And as always, check out http://www.thewho.com

Fuck! Every time they play a song I think, "Oh, yeah. This is definitely my favorite Who song." Then they play another one and think, "Oh yeah. This is definitely my favorite Who song."

I forgot how much this band meant to me when I was growing up.

I see your point. Take away the incredible drumming, bass playing, writing, and front man, and what do you got?

I guess that there radio success has turned me off to the Who. I am only 25 so i have only really heard the hits. That being said they do not hold a candle to Led Zeppelin

It's kind of funny. The Who is one of those bands that I always think I'm done with due to overexposure, and then I'll hear something like "Going Mobile," and think, "Oh yeah, I almost forgot... these guys are awesome."

I am tired of the same old songs played on radio. I love it when they play the REALLY good stuff every once in awhile, like "The Song is Over", "Slip Kid", "The Real Me", "Acid Queen", and even "Eminence Front".

Same with Zeppelin. I loved them for years, but almost EVERY SONG in their catalog is overplayed! I haven't listened to them for months because of it!

The VH1 special was really good and I may go down to Best Buy to pick up the DVDs. My brother turned me onto the Who with "Who's Next" the new extended version is a must have for Who fans. They were my first real rock concert it was there 1st final tour with Kenny Jones on drums I think they were supporting "It's Hard" great show and it was only 15 bucks.

They are definitely one of my all time favorite bands.
