As ridiculous and pompous as this may sound, I figured it’d be easiest to post this on all the boards because all our friends are scattered throughout and I can’t think of an easier way to let everyone know what’s happened and avoid disinformation other than board gossip which is currently on hiatus and wouldn’t address the disinformation issue anyway.

Alkey is back in the hospital again recovering from emergency surgery he had yesterday. On Monday night, he was in the hospital to treat a fistula he had developed and address his recurring fevers and lack of recovery over the past three months. He threw up violently causing his incisional hernia to rupture and his small bowel expelled from his body. From what I understand, his first surgery was not successful because a perforation was missed in his colon. This leakage probably caused an abscess to form behind his stomach and a fistula to form on his left side.

His emergency surgery repaired the hernia, the abscess, the fistula, removed the existing stoma and created a new one on his other side, and put back all his stuff where it can be temporarily while he recovers. I expect he will be hospitalized for another 2-3 weeks and hopefully all his issues were addressed and he’ll be able to recover for the next 3-4 months before the next surgery to reattach his colon.

I want to thank everyone for their concern, care and kind thoughts over the past three months. He has kept his spirits up thanks to being able to laugh with all his old and new friends on the various boards and on paltalk. While the past few years have been difficult, I will say that we truly feel blessed to have surrounded ourselves with so many wonderful caring people with enough hack jokes about shit bags to fill Noah’s Ark.

Update:

Alkey is still in the hospital and slowly recovering from surgery. Unfortunately due to his preexisting condition, he developed a pulmonary embolism. He is on 2 mils of dilaudin an hour. He is very sore and swollen from all the iv’s. He’s in good spirits in consideration of all that has happened. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to speak to the doctors regarding finding out the cause for all this and trying to address that. Obviously they want to make sure he comes out of surgery ok, before moving past that to find preventive measures that may help him recover better and us to understand how to avoid further complications.

God bless you Pat! With all that is going on you manage to throw a p.e. into the mix. Hopefully the last time they were in you they put in a Greenfield screen/filter so you won't have to worry about that again in the future. I'm actually a little surprised you didn't already have one. Regardless, we're all thinking about you & praying for your recovery.

We discussed the filter but his encologist believes that the foreign body would just impulse his body to create clots above the filter as well. They don't think that the benefit would outweigh the risk.

That sucks, I was hoping for his sake the filter would give him one less thing to worry about as far as the clots go. That's what they did for me when the p.e.'s almost destroyed my lungs. But, shit, I'm no doctor & it sounds like Pat is a very tricky case from all angles.

Patrick I hope you get better soon! A PE is no joking around! I can't believe you threw a PE. Being in the medical field i see it all the time from patients being so sedentary. I wonder while he was recovering at him got a DVt (clot in the leg) that went up into the lungs. Anyhow, please take care of yourself, you and Arelis are in my thoughts. Please dont hestitate to ask for help, even if it's to just have some company to help out!

Alkey was transferred today from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility where he will do 6 hrs daily of rehabilitation daily for at least the next two weeks. Hopefully the physical therapy will help him be more mobile before he comes home so that his recovery won’t be further hindered. Obviously both of us want him home, but he’s holding up well and he’s hopeful that this time the surgery took. After this it will be another 3-4 months before another surgery to reattach his colon.
