View Full Version : My poor baby.....

Last night after my classes I went home. I usually hang out at my boyfirends house at the end of the week, but for some reson last night I didnt. This morning at 8:00 my cell rang, which woke me up. I havent been sleeping lately and my boyfriends knows that, so I figured there was a particular reason for his call.

He called me to tell me that when he came home this morning from work, one of my cat's was laying on the bed, and had died. At first I thought he was kidding, he had to tell me three or four times before I believed him.

I am so sad right now, this February would have been his birthday, along with his brothers, and there was no indication of this happening. Last week all the cats were sick with a respitory infection/cold, we got them medicine and as of yesterday they all felt much better and were back to thier old shenanigans. The reason I mention going home as opposed to staying at his house, is that I dont think I would have been able to deal if he died while I was there. Whether I woke up and found him at the foot of the bed, or if I was up and witnessed whatever had happened.

I have been called a hardened cunt, a bitch, you name it; but when it comes to animals I am as soft as they come, I cant help it.

I feel so bad for Sammy, his brother, because he keeps looking for Dunkin, and the poor thing is outside on the coldest day in 2 years in a box. I know he can't feel it, but it still makes me so sad.

Bye my little Dunkin.

Aww, I'm sorry you lost your kitty! I know how hard that is, I've lost a few myself.
He looks like a very happy cat in that photo--be comforted that you gave him a
good life.

Gaia that sounds terrible, I'm sorry you had to go through this. Hopefully as time goes by things get easier for you. Just take care of your other little ones, I'm sure they miss you little baby as much as you do.

You've got my deepest sympathies, kiddo. As a fellow animal lover, I know just how much a part of the family pets become.

RIP Dunkin. Looks like you were one cool cat.

I lost a pet I had had for 13 years almost a year ago. It came at a time that was already bad for me. I'm so sorry to hear this. For some reason I think this time of year just sucks for a lot of people...

Sorry about your loss. I'm a dog person myself and lost one a few years back. Pets are always glad to see you and that's tough to lose. My condolences.

Sorry to hear that Gaia. The same thing just appened to a friend of mine. Her cat was sick and the vet said it was "nothing serious". A couple of days later she came home and found the cat dead. She was a wreck for weeks.

I hope you'll be OK.

This had to be the first post I read on here today??!! Coming out of an upbeat number into a god damn DEATH dedication......and where are those pictures I was supposed to see???

But seriously, my cat is all snuggled up against my leg as I read this, I dont know how I'll handle her death. I'm not a cat person at all, but for the last 13 years this one has stolen my heart. I hope I go first. Then she can figure out how to get rid of my body.

I'm really sorry for your loss Gaia.

My condolences Miss Gaia. He looked like he was a total darling in that drawer. Animals come and they go, but they can sometimes take a piece of you with them...I don't know if that's an overall bad thing or a good thing. All I know is that it must hurt, and for that, I am deeply sorry. Life is such a two-faced prick.

Sorry to hear that sweetie. Losing a pet can be more immediate than many family members, since they're so much a part of your daily life. And then when they're not there, like they always were, it really sucks.

Buy his brother Sammy some new toys, some treats and then give him a big hug. It'll make both of you feel better.

yeah, i was about to say the same thing. he looks just like my cat, Rom The Spaceknight.
I'm sorry your cat died. Always a hard thing to deal with, the death of a pet.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. All of the kind words really have helped through all of this shit. Just knowing that everyone here is an animal lover makes me even happier to be a member of this board.

Im still sad, still in shock, and still feel bad for his brother, but that will all get better with time. I will go to the pound on Monday to get Sammy a new brother, and to save a life. JUst so he is not lonely anymore. We have a second cat, but he is older and was always anti-social with the two younger boys.

I have been trying to play with him as much as possible, but it's not the same as another cat.

Thanks again to everyone. You could never know how your words have helped.

Lisa

Actually, maybe you guys can help with advice yet again.

Before Dunkin passed we were thinking on getting one more cat; which would have made 4. Now that Dunkin is gone, we were thinking of making it four again anyhow. One from the pound, and one from a breeder. A ragdoll kitten.

At first I though, maybe we can get two more brothers from the pound, but I thought about it, and feel like maybe if we got two brothers it might make Sammy feel like missing the brotherly bond he had with Dunkin, I know that sounds stupid. What do you guys think?

That's awful. I don't know what I'll do when my 2 "Tonks" pass on. I'll surely be a cryin mess. Maybe some kittens will help you and your other cat with being lonely. I plan on 2 Tonkinese kittens when either Bucky or Curly passes. I sure wish cats lived longer. It's just not fuckin fair!

My sincere condolences...

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone again.....I am so touched by all the kind words, and couldnt imagine having a better bunch of people for buddays.

The vet called two days ago and advised us that Dunkin had a heart defect. He said it was cardiomyopathy. He also said he was amazed that Dunkin lived this long. I feel sad for him, but know that he was SPOILED ROTTEN, and could not have had a better life. I am also worried that his brother may be affected by this heart problem, but I am told theres no "cure".

Today we buried Dunkin in the back, I will get a special marker and in the spring pick some flowers to plant that will fit his personality. I was crying off and on all week, but today I said my final goodbye....It was hard to see him put into the cold wet ground. I know that everyday I will walk back there and say hello.

I'd go with the sibs. I think animals dont neccesarily think of eachother as brother/sister, but just bond because theyve known eachother that long. Sammy will probably have a problem meeting ANY new kittens, regardless of how they know eachother. But in time, he'll adapt and learn to love them as much as he loved Dunkin. I give you a hug for your loss, and wish you luck and happiness with the new family.

I'm so sorry to hear about this Gaia. I know I'm going to be a mess when my cats go... They're all around the same age (11) and I don't know how I'll handle it.

Ragdoll cats are great, and beautiful. I actually have a card from a Ragdoll breeder on Long Island, I can pass the info on to you if you'd like. Jeff and I went to the Pet Show at the Coliseum, and they had a cat show, this guy had the most beautiful ragdoll cat there, he had a great personality and now I know that will be my next cat.
