I was going through our old pics, and found this one.

My parents have 100 acres of land out in the middle of nowhere in the No Cal coastal range. There are no neighbors, no pavement, no phone or power lines, none of that new-fangled shit. My wife and I like to go up there on a day off and let the dogs run wild while we make sure the hayseeds haven't cut the fence and broken into the cabin and raided the huge box of 80's Playboys again.

Being the overgrown children that we are, we like to look for critters under rotten logs and archaic sheet metal. A couple of years ago, we found this beauty of a Northern Pacific Rattler. It was a cold day, so the snake let us snap some good shots before thretening us and slithering off. A couple months later, we found a California King Snake in the same area, so it's possible this Rattlesnake became King Snake food. I don't know how King Snakes do it, because Rattler meat ain't that tasty. Then again, the one time I ate it, we had accidentally run over the damn thing so it was technically roadkill. I guess I'm the hayseed.

I was out walking one time with my dog and all of a sudden I noticed she was looking at something intently off the path. I then heard something like a light hissing followed by a low rattle. I looked to the left and saw 2 feet away from me a 6ish foot rattler with its tail up and its head raised rattling at me. Needless to say the dog took off running. I quickly did the same.

I still think snakes are cool though. Scary as shit for me but cool nonetheless.

cool pic. It's prehistoric-looking, like maybe it lived with the dinosaurs.

I miss Sal. He was my ball python. I had him for 5 years, until someone stole him in 1993.

it's not the size of the snake but the motion in the ocean
