Anybody here have one? Any kind of information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Is the procedure painful in any way? Is there any kind of recovery period? Any effect on your sex life whatsoever? Does insurance cover this kind of thing (probably not, I'd guess)?

I'm going to be 38 soon and I can't believe I'm still wearing rubbers (my wife has a problem with practically every kind of female contraception). If you had told me when I was in college that I'd still be wearing rubbers when I was 38, I'd have killed you right where you stood.

Not sure if it is covered by Insurance, but it is done as an "in office procedure". And your first few loads will still contain sperm. I think it's like 5 before you will be sperm free. You will go back to the doctors office and he will test it to make sure they are not present.

Come to think about it, it may be covered by insurance because I know insurance will cover a woman getting her tubed tied and they do cover birth control now-at least my insurance does.

I was supposed to have it done 9 years ago after my wife got pregnant with my 2nd son. Now we just had out 3rd son 15 months ago.

In 5 years, I will have a senior in HS, a freshman in HS, and 1 in kindergarten.

It is more painful (financially) to not have a vasectomy, and I still haven't gone for mine.

I had a Vasectomy on June 7, 2004 at the tender age of 24.

I had 3 kids and was done...

About the procedure.... I walked in, sat down and they gave me a shot of muscle relaxants/ relaxers(???). The Dr. came in and got me to lay on the table, he gave me local freezing. He left, came in 15 minutes later and got to work. He did the right side first... He takes a tool that almost looks like an awl and poked a hole in my sack, took another tool that looked like a hooked leather sewing needle. He grabbed the Vas, pulled it out, crimped off 2 sides and snipped the middle. Once cut he cotterized the vas and reinserted into my sack. He then repeated the process on the left side... except I forgot to tell him I don't take well to freezing and by the time he got to cutting the vas the freezing had wore off. I jumped, yelled and seen stars.

I had to give monthly semen samples to the lab so they could tell if it was a success and to tell me when it was okay to stop wearing protection. It took me 3 months to become fully sterile.... some people take over a year.

Alberta health care covered it, I think in total the procedure came to $220.00

All in all it was a good decision, I don't regret it for a second....neither does my wife.

Any particular questions you can PM me... I researched this like a maniac beforehand.

Don't be worried about it, it's not bad....My buddy was supposed to go the same time as me but chickened out, his wife is now 5 months pregnant.

Ramrod edit:

Here they do it on Fridays so you have the weekend to recover. I was okay a few hours later but milked it for a week so I could take sick leave from work and have my wife serve on me. I was ready for gentle sex 4 days later...by the end of a full week my balls were able to hit her ass with full force again.

And when'd you start having kids that you had three by the time you were 24? I'm 25 and am not even married.

Narc,

I was 22 when my girlfriend (now wife) and I had twins...

We got married when the twins were 8 months old and decided that since we already had 2 at this young age we might as well fill out our family so the kids will all be close in age and be able to have things in common. It was also so that when we are 40 - 45 we could be free to travel or do whatever.

One of my friends has kids, Two are married and the rest are still partying and humping new chicks as much as possible....

The only shitty thing is now my friends are travelling and have shitloads of cash, when we can travel and have money they will be raising children. It's a vicious cycle.

Thanks to all who gave serious answers. And to all the jokesters out there: thanks also. That's why I come to this site. Ramrod: thanks for the info. even though it was a little graphic.

In the little amount of research I did, I came across something that said New Jersey requires full aenestia (sp?). I have to look into this more. If true I think that it might be more than a simple doctor's office procedure.

If I do go through with it I'm going to have to do some convincing of my wife. She's totally against the idea and doesn't want to give up the thought of having another kid. For me, two is enough.

They do it right after she gives birth so you can recover from both in one shot.

i have no info but i just wanted to say that even though its reversible i wont take the chance that the doctor fucks up

same reason why i still wear contacts, putting on a rubber or putting in contacts isnt as much as a nuisance as going blind or having my dick turned into a mess

My wife is getting into her late 30's, which is becoming a little bit dangerous for women on the pill (due to complications). So in order for her to stop, I’ve agreed to get a vasectomy. My insurance covers it but the only problem is that the doctor is only in on Tuesday and Wednesday and I haven't been able to fit it in my schedule. My wife has been nice enough to take care of the birth control for the past nine years so it's the least I can do.

I had it done four years ago this March. Procedure is minimally invasive- local anesthetic, two small incisions, pull out the tube, hit it with some anesthetic, snip, cauterize the ends, tuck back in, a quick stitch and a swat on the ass on the way out the door. You won't feel a thing (other than the first pin pricks for the local- but they use a really small needle.) Buy two bags of frozen peas- keep one on your sack and one in the freezer- rotate every hour.

Your balls are sore as fuck once the local wears off so pop a vicoden, have a couple of beers handy and enjoy a spacy weekend. Don't do anything until Monday (the procedure is usually done on Fri)- no lifting, no running around, no playing with the kids- just park your ass on the couch, take your drugs and don't move. You will start feeling a bit better sat night/ sun morn- don't trust this- just ride it out until Mon. I've heard horror stories about guys thinking they were set on sunday- do too much and end up with a pair of grapefruits. Follow this advice and you'll be good as new by Monday.

My insurance covered- I paid a $20 office visit fee. Sex life is fine- the first nut is a bit scary- you don't know what to expect. You will ejaculate like normal- just there won't be any swimmers in the fluid. Feels exactly the same. All in all a fairly easy recovery.

Good luck, bro.

Judge....Listen to me....First of all Im terrible at fainting from stuff like this..Swear I fainted when me and my wife went in for the consultation.... serious...Im not proud of it ,but I wont lie to ya either...The first thing that would have helped if I had known in where they cut you..I thought it was gonna be on the yam bag.(and that made me feel kinda sick)...Its not its.....well..... not that bad. its on the side .....well look it up....Anyway what ever you do listen to the Dr.... The procedure does not hurt thats the problem..When I got home I had a vicoden and that stuff makes me want to wash the gutters and wax the cat....So I mowed the YARD!!! It was a riding mower but I mowed..Everything felt ok at first..I should have stayed in bed like the Dr told me..I developed epididymitis Im pretty sure thats how you spell it(read about it) But let me tell ya... I NEVER want to go thru that again. My Dr said 1/1000 develop it...Bottom line It does not hurt.. You wont feel a thing just stay in bed the first day or so... By the way the antibotic they treat ya with for epididymitis is the same they use for anthrax..No kidding...Jug
