Did anyone watch 60 Minutes tonight? There was a profile of a British savant who saw numbers as shapes and colors. He didn't like how 289 looked, but 333 was beautiful. It looked to be a segment repeated from an earlier broadcast.

This guy was a math genius and actually learned Icelandic, which is supposedly one of the most difficult languages to learn, in one week. Most savants are severly socially stunted, but this guy was surprisingly well adapted. He did, however, exhibit other Fez like attributes, such as being uncomfortable in public around large crowds. He also disliked the beach because of something to do with the sand.

His extraordinary abilities were attributed, in part, to a severe epilleptic seizure that he suffered at age 4.

This guy really reminded me of Fez. Especially the seeing numbers as colors and shapes and the social phobias.

The reason he doesn't like the beach is because he has a compulsion to count the grains of sand. That would drive me insane.

The science channel had a show about this guy a year ago called "brainman". It's worth checking out if you can catch a repeat.
