My favorites are the ones the have been caught. I'm not too thrilled with those that are still out there. Years ago, I had a premonition that I'd meet my maker at the hands of a serial killer. I'd be chopped up and found in several trash bags... at the age of 102.

I don't know if I have a "favorite" but the most interesting to me was reading about the original zodiac killer. I read a book on him a few years back.

This Canadian pig farmer, Willie Pickton, is interesting. And upsetting. I can't stop reading about him, though. http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/predators/robert_pickton/robert_pickton_jump_page.html

Cop: Well, we found this gun with a dildo attached to it, and it has your DNA and the dead woman's DNA on it.

Pig Farmer: Well, that doesn't prove anything.

Cop: Well, actually, yes it does.

This is one of my favorites, mainly because it happened in my neck of the woods and is still unsolved:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenner,_California_Double-Murder_of_2004

There is some people who theorize that the Zodiac Killer may have done it. We are about 60 miles north of San Francisco.

This Fish Head beach where they were murdered is known to the locals as Driftwood Beach, as its narrow strip of sand is always covered with driftwood. It's right at the mouth of the Russian River, so some synergy between the ocean and the river beaches tons of driftwood and other storm debris there. It was a pretty popular spot when I was in high school to have bonfires and keggers at, and talking to my brother-in-law, it seems that it still is. The Sherriff's Office found strange devil's heads carved into driftwood, and a "guestbook" that people would sign when they hung out there. About a year after the murders, my wife and I were salmon fishing with our friend on his boat right off this beach. We saw the Sherriff's helicopter come in and prepare a swim team. They dropped a swimmer on the line, and pulled out a corpse in the basket. I thought it was gonna be another murder, but it turned out to be some old broad who had drowned. They found her car in Jenner, a small town right up the river.

On Pickton:

Crown Counsel Derrill Prevett told the jury of evidence that was found on Pickton's property, including skulls cut in half with hands and feet stuffed inside. The remains of another victim were stuffed in a garbage bag in the bottom of a trash can and her blood stained clothing was found in the trailer in which Pickton lived. Part of one of the victim's jaw bone and teeth were found in the ground beside the slaughter house and a .22 calibre revolver with an attached dildo containing both his and a victim's DNA was in his laundry room. In a video taped recording played for the jury, Pickton claimed to have attached the dildo to his weapon as a makeshift silencer.

......wow

Words of Warning from Ted Bundy:

The night before Bundy was executed, he gave a television interview to Dr. James Dobson, head of the evangelical Christian organization Focus on the Family. During the interview, Bundy made repeated claims as to the pornographic "roots" behind his sexually driven violence. He stated that, while pornography didn't cause him to commit his crimes, the consumption of violent pornography helped "shape and mold" his violence into "behavior too terrible to describe." He said that he felt that violence in the media, "particularly sexualized violence," sent boys "down the road to being Ted Bundys". In the same interview, hours before his execution, Bundy stated:[1]

"You are going to kill me, and that will protect society from me. But out there are many, many more people who are addicted to pornography, and you are doing nothing about that."

what are they chances we have more than one serial killer trolling around this board?

Jack the Ripper is always a favorite just because the mystery behind it.

also

Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo is an interesting one as well, just because the amount he was able to kill and how the police completely let him go and let him kill more.

The Tedster gets my vote. This choice is not without a very thorough check of american psychos. For more, get your bloody paws on a book that is considered the encyclopedia of maniacs in american history aptly named: "Bloodletters and Badmen". I've gotta agree with Rockville Joe - there is none so great as Ted Bundy. I would have totally fallen for the "my arm is in a cast, can you help me put this in my car" gimmick. He was HOT, smart and had quite the way with the ladies. After reading Ann Rule's "The Stranger Beside Me", my heart would belong to Ted forever. Apparently, Ann Rule worked side by side with ol' Teddy on a suicide hotline number in Florida right before he got caught. He was working under the name Chris something. Her book about him ROCKS.

My brush with a real serial killer: I'm a retired LEO. (Retired early, by the way, hurt in the line of duty). When in-service, I actually helped find and apprehend a local serial killer here in Md. I was part of a team working with the FBI back in the early 80's attempting to catch William Christenson. This guy had a penchant for raping, beheading, strippers in the Md/DC area. He would hang out at strip clubs, primarily a place called shepherd park, to find his prey.....It all started when he was caught tying a girl to a tree in Bethesda, and threatening her with a syringe if she didn't shutup and cooperate. Subsequent to this he was charged and convicted of several murders that he had committed previously. Convicted to natural life.... I had started in the local jail as a college intern, then as a CO, and had to deal with this guy on a daily basis during his pre trial status. His IQ was reportedly genius level, and we were advised to tread extra-carefully around him. He was always trying to get his fellow inmates fired up and start an uprise. They would tell him to shut the fuck up. He always wanted to debate with me and the other officers. Being a psych major at the time at Umd night school, I found him amusing and odd. This guy was the real deal, and I had a chance to examine him on a daily basis. They kept him in regular population, which I now think about as being a bad idea, but at that time we were unaware of the other pending murder charges. He had a whiny, monotone voice, and never focused his eyes on you. Like he was staring at your forehead. His flaming red hair looked like someone else we know, (MR/ESD), but he also had a bushy mustache, very greasy looking.... About the same time I had transferred out of jail to street law enforcement, he was sentenced and sent to the state to serve his time..... His father was a retired FBI agent and had connections. He eventually got his son transferred to a mental hospital in Canada. The idiots in Canada accidently released him, and we had a serial killer on the loose once again. 18 months later, I was transferred to the criminal warrant section. Since I had personal, one on one, direct contact with this guy while in jail, they assigned me to the team to catch him. We hung out at strip clubs waiting for him to appear, not bad work if you can get it. No-show. We put his parents house under 24 hour surveillance with a new technological tool called "night vision" that enabled us to see at night! wow! Long story a bit shorter: We caught him, but in a rather anti-climactic way. We were going through the parents trash on a routine basis, where we kept finding letters from an area in PA that turned out ot be a state prison. William Christenson had already been caught, again, and was serving time under an alias for a new murder that he had committed after his mistaken Canadian release. He had altered his fingerprints, so there was no hit when he was arrested for the new murder. Epilogue: a quinn martin production: he died several years later of stomach cancer. I drove up to the morgue and identified him. Gaunt, lifeless, but definitely him. It appeared he had suffered as much or even more than his victims during his long painful, cancerous demise. Leaving, I was surprised to have this weird, sad, feeling for him. Not for his suffering, he had it coming, but the fact that this guy truly didn't have a clue. He was nuts, a very bad giy, but like a wild animal, no impulse control, unable to behave himself. He had the same look in his eyes as another inmate, Haddon Clark, that I had to deal with 12 years later. A wild, confused, caged look. A lot of stories on that guy. To be continued.

15th century French nobleman Gilles De Rais, who is believed to have killed between 100 and 200 boys and girls. He tortured them and then jacked off on their bodies. I know, I know, who DIDN'T kill between 100 and 200 boys and girls and jack off on their bodies back then? So l'idiot got caught! Still interesting because during De Rais' military career he fought alongside Jean D'Arc, whom he apparently did not kill or jack off on. This strange fruit was turned into real strange fruit in 1440.

Hmmm...Fat Never Heard Of That Guy, And Is Sorry That He Hasn't Gotten His Serial-Killer Props.
Are There Any Books Or Movies About Him?
Also, Does Anyone Know About That Guy In Montana Or Idaho That Killed Children, And One Kid He Then Ground Up And Served Him To The Kid's Parents As A Hamburger?

There are several books About the G to De R. Just go to www.powells.com and have a look. Gilles De Rais is who the legend of Bluebeard was based on. Even transcendental philosopher Georges Battailles has a book on the guy.
Also, in reference to Heavy Metal Moe's Macabre album art drop: Macabre's metal opera about Dahmer is the best metal opera about Dahmer around. Sort of a Sweeney Todd for those ultra modern twisted fucks with on-the-go lifestyles.

Richard 'The Iceman' Kuklinski
The guy wasn't really a serial killer but just a cold blooded assassin who not only killed people for money, but because they pissed him off or he just wanted to see what would happen. Example: He wanted to see how much damage a crossbow would do so, riding around in his car with a crossbow, he asked a stranger for directions. When the man came to his window he fired the bolt from the crossbow right into his head. Nice guy.
Watching him in his HBO interviews was truly chilling.

But I digress. I've got to throw a vote down for Big John Gacy.

ZODIAC is to me the most intriguing case. I read many books and there are many different theories.
Thanks Weeka for my zodiac sig pic
Second for me would be Jack the Ripper.
My feeling is that once they are caught the the cases arent as intreresting which is prolly why these two are so interesting to me.

I wasn't sure where else to start this, so if it doesn't belong here sorry.
I've heard this topic discussed on O&A a while back and have heard it repeatedly on R&F this weekend, and love the topic.
Mine has always been Ed Gein. Even though he only officially killed two people, the fact that this guy would dig up corpses and and use human skulls as bed posts and soup bowls,
make lampshades from and upholster his furniture with human skin, made mobiles out of noses, lips, and labias, and wore a belt made of human nipples makes him seem much crazier than most of the others. The crazy fuck also made a "woman suit" out of human skin, including a mask, a vest complete with breasts, and a vagina he would wear while dancing in the moonlight.
Also, does ESD's unhealthy physical attraction to Jeffrey Dahmer disturb anyone else?

I don't have any favorites, but the one that sticks in my mind is Gacy. In the early 80s I had just moved to Michigan and had a newspaper route. One day I was collecting subscriptions and this old lady brought me into her house and started showing me newspaper clippings. Turned out, one of the neighborhood guys had gone to Chicago in the late 70s and ended up being one on Gacy's victims. I haven't thought of that for years. FYI: Brian Dennahy played Gacy in the film.
