A war like this is almost impossible to win unless you want to take out everything that walks. The military has alot of interesting weapons they can use, but they are expensive so they don't want to use them.

cheney and the neocons know they have lost. the goal is to extand the mess until the next administration. then, if and when the next administration has to pull out and we don't have a win (whatever the fuck a win means), they can say that those who pulled out are the losers.

Its a similar thing to the huge deficit we have, once the new administration takes over and has to raise taxes to cover all the spending Bush and his boys did. The republicans will once again say see the dems raise taxes, our economy is this or that because of the dems, etc.

The first 2-3 years for our next president will have to cut spending and raise taxes just to get us out of debt. Hopefully people are smart enought to understand the burden this current presient has put on the country.

What Iraq really needs is a leader who can take the people by the balls and impose his will. A leader who is prepared to talk to his people in the only language they understand, religious fear and violence. It would have to be someone cagey enough to make the western world a little uneasy while still being a known quantity. Oh, wait a minute... we hunted that guy and then popped his neck.

Nice move. What the braniacs in Washington didn't seem to understand about this whole thing is, while all people are all equal, they are not the same. Not all cultures want fucking WalMarts in their back yards.

As far as taxes go, we should drastically cut spending. Our tax dollars go to making people dependant on the government.

Anyhoo, I just got a great idea, how about we reverse what got us into this mess. Break Iraq up into several different countries. When you lump groups of people that don't like each other, violence is created.

Bush is going to give whoever they nominate orders to carry out the surge. So unless the surge was exclusively this guy's idea in the first place then I don't see why they should blame him for it and not nominate him.

I'd also say this "surge" policy is still a minor issue at this point. It's really just a last ditch effort that's unlikely to make much of a difference according to the guys who came up with the idea in the first place. I certainly wouldn't tolerate any politician punishing uniformed military for the success or failure of the "surge" strategy.

And the fact is we lost this war a long time ago. I'd say we lost it in early 2004 when we decided to delay the assault on Fallujah until after the election and then when we did conduct the attack a week after the election we pretended it was still a surprise! That was the first time I lost all hope. We might have lost in late 2003 when we decided we could torture our way into defeating the insurgency. How'd that work out for us?

More importantly, if we now decide to spread the blame around rather than putting it solely on the Bush adminstration and their supporters and mouthpieces we'll only be guaranteeing that we will do this again.

Two reasons why we'll lose in Iraq? Here are two reasons we've already won. We went in for WMDs and for regime change. WMDs=NONE Regime Change=DONE. So the question=Why are we still there? The answer to that question would get close to why we invaded in the first place. It certainly wasn't for the reasons stated. If it was we wouldn't still be there.
