once again the us govt is trying to make us use dollar coins

in this day and age where most people are using credit and debit cards i see this as pointless to even try again since it has failed twice already

one pro for it is that they say it will save hundreds of millions of dollars each year in printing costs and be more durable than a paper dollar

but i for one hate having change in my pocket and i hardly use cash anymore anyway

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070211/ap_on_bi_ge/money_ap_poll

Actually, the last dollar coins are being used in car washes around here. I am sure a similar fate awaits the new coin.

When people were asked whether the penny should be eliminated, 71 percent said no, according to the poll of 1,000 adults conducted Nov. 28-30 that had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

People are so damn stupid. A penny costs something like 1.4 cents to produce, so the fed actually LOSES money producing them. But they should forget about this, I hate those Dollars. I understand they last much longer, and it saves the Feds money but there's other places to go first. Instead, I'd eliminate the penny and nickel and make the dime the smallest form of currency. Pennys and Nickels have no real item buying ability, so just get rid of them.

And its NOT inflationary, as some claim. Cash registers would simply round up and down to the nearest dime. So you break even on it over time.

I used to collect coins, and even I am not excited. The obvious point is all the argument you need.

They tried it and it fell flat, twice within the past 30 years. The most recent less than a decade ago. Americans don't like dollar coins for whatever reason, so don't waste more money on something that will be scrapped.

Why risk it and carry cash around when you can just use a debit card? Takes up minimal space. I mean cash will still be around for somethings, but mainly debit will be used.

Let's get rid of the useless penny before we start minting new dollar coins.

For the love of god fight it!

If I had been older than 10 years old when our dollar bill was taken I would have taken a hostage. It is the worst. They are heavy, they don't fill out a wallet as nicely as the bills and you look like a farmer with so much change in your pocket.

If that's not bad enough they will give it some stupid name too!

here's my plan:
Get rid of every coin except the quarter and dollar coin. round everything off to the nearest 25 cent. then the bills we produce are the $2, 5, 10, 20, etc....

we're moving more and more away from money anyway, why spend millions to produce the penny, nickel, and dime when they're just taking up space in my pocket and under my couch?

If they're not going to quit printing the dollar then they are wasting money stamping out these things. At best, I'm good for a set for each of my kids and would probably try and nap a set for my dad who likes coins. Outside of that, I'll stick to my paper money thanks. If they quit printing the bills, then we will have no choice but to switch.

It's no different than the American refusal to switch to the metric system outside of scienctific use. They keep making rulers out of inches so we never switch. Maybe an international "Your penis is longer in centimeters" campaign would popularize the metric system. Ooooh... maybe a "Your penis is longer when measured with dollar coins than bills" campaign!

Badmonkey
