Sparing no effort, Boston Beer said it recruited "world-renowned sensory experts" to work on the design of a glass that beginning in March, will be sold in packages of four for $30 at www.samueladams.com.
One feature of the new glass is a neck-and-lip design that "helps sustain the head of the beer, which enhances the release of signature Noble hop aromas found in Samuel Adams Boston Lager," the company said.

It sounds like a big load of crap to me.

If you want good beer find a local brewery and have some fresh beer!

It looks pretty, but it really is just a marketing scam. The beer from that glass isn't gonna taste any different than if you drank it from the bottle or a regular old pint glass.

a neck-and-lip design that "helps sustain the head of the beer, which enhances the release of signature Noble hop aromas found in Samuel Adams Boston Lager"

Seriously? C'mon...

I just called my buddy who works at the Sam Adams brewery and he's going to bring home a few of these glasses so we can test drive them.

I'll let you know how easily they break in a bar fight.

Good point... The fact that the beer has to basically get over a hump before it gets to the lip of the glass, which widens outward... pretty much makes it impossible to drink the end of your beer.

i used to work at a microbrewery, and although i am not a beer snob, i understand their views.

in europe, especially countries like belgium or germany, almost every beer on tap is served in a custom glass. this is not an uncommon practice.

i definitely think a beer tastes different from a glass than it does out of a bottle. wine connoisseurs also agree that oxygenating a wine will bring out its flavor better.

BUT...i could give a shit. sam adams sucks. they buy out small microbreweries that win competitions and slap their label on the recipe.

No doubt it's a gimic but I feel bad for the bartenders who potentially will have to stack these things. Good luck with that. I miss the days of stealing all the beer glasses that I drank from.

My personal favorite :

The best i've ever taken was a Paulner Pilsner glass from J&R's Steakhouse in Stoneybrook. Walked out of there with it in my pants. Unfortunatly it was broken in my parents Beer fridge when I moved home. Damn.
