THe best cop show is back folks. Can't wait to see what happens this time around.
Especially since it ends after series 2 and they will explain why he ended up in
1973. Anyone else a fan I know Ron loves it. But he does not like to watch TV on
his computer.

I know there are DVD players that will play AVI files if they were burnt to a DVD as
if its a Data Disc

Dont forget folks Episode 2 is available also

Still last nights music was probably the best with The Faces, Roxy Music, Cream all being cranked.

So is Morgan the answer to Sam's staying in 73. I mean when Sam was looking through the paperwork and it was all blank. Also how Morgan told him we trying to get him back.

Proly in summer like last year. The last episode was fantastic! Watched it twice already. Man does good British television leave you wanting more!

What's this about a spinoff? They could just do a straightforward 70's cop show with this cast and I think it would be brilliant. Just keep the solid writing and the great soundtrack.

Edit: I found info on the spinoff here: Ashes To Ashes, Life on Mars sequel (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6542633.stm)

I just finished the last episode and I am really happy with the direction that it took. They ended this series on a really high note, they could have easily gone for another season or two and run the thing into the ground but they ended it like they had planned on doing and it will be remembered as a great series. I was worried for a little bit there with the way the ending was going but..

Spoiler below: (we really need some sort of spoiler tag)
when he was on the roof and the title song was playing I was rooting for him to jump. JUMP!!! was what I yelled out at the screen. I was worried someone was going to talk him out of it but as soon as he picked up the pace I was rooting for him.
End of spoiler.

I am going to miss it. The characters were the best and the way they interacted had me laughing every week.

I will be refusing to watch the American one, much like I did with The Office.

The scene where Sam's hit by the car and wakes up in 1973 might be the most beautiful thing that's ever been recorded for TV.

One thing I've picked up on is that the viewer has same relationship with Gene Hunt as Sam does. You start out hating him. You eventually grow to tolerate him, and by the end of the first series, you fucking love him.

Brilliant television - much too smart for most of the hayseeds over here who didn't even get Arrested Development.

i'm ashamed to say that i know him from "Men in Trees". I think he played a publisher/love interest for Anne Heche. Didn't notice any Irish accent at all.

I'm more concerned about the LA setting of the remake than the cast. And the fact that network seasons just go on and on and on... I think the original worked so well because they never let it drag.

i'm ashamed to say that i know him from "Men in Trees". I think he played a publisher/love interest for Anne Heche. Didn't notice any Irish accent at all.

I'm more concerned about the LA setting of the remake than the cast. And the fact that network seasons just go on and on and on... I think the original worked so well because they never let it drag.

The only thing I'll say is that it's better than the prospect of another David E. Kelley show in Boston!

I just finished watching both series. Anyone else totally let down? I'm probably in the minority here, but this was a tick above average at best.

Interesting. What were your issues with the show?

Thanks to the caretakers at the Overlook Hotel,
I just finished watching series 2. (I already watched series 1).

All, I can say is wow. For me, it's the coolest thing from the bbc since The Singing Detective.

I was so happy for him 10 minutes before the end. Then I saw him up there and remembered Ron basiccally telling us how it ended... I didnt want Sam to do it.. but once he did, it made sense. And I was happy for him again. I just wish they had shown his 2007 life to be worse than they did; maybe try to get into touch with Maya, and her not wanting anything to do with him... or even show him using SpyderFynder to read about Manchester's first female detective dying during a train robbery, so that he felt he had to go back. Or maybe even just going back at a different point, before the robbery during the planning stage, so that no one would get hurt and he wouldve never been a rat.

But all in all, I loved it.

Didn't the "Over the Rainbow" sequence tell you how much his 2007 life sucked?

If youre serious, I'll just answer that it showed he was depressed,
but other than missing 73, they made no point as to WHY his life sucked.

If you were just making fun of the song, umm... I kinda like that version. lol.

the last conversation he had with the '73 bartender and the chat he had with his mom set up the ending ... when he cut his finger, he felt nothing (and disconnected with the real world) and then jumped off the building to escape back to '73

Again, I know what happened! lol.
And I know how he felt because they showed it.
What they didnt show was WHY the present sucked so bad,
and why he disconnected from it.
It's not a necessity, I'm just sayin I wish they had showed that more.
Maybe if mom was an uncaring drunkard,
or Maya had run off with an Iraqi.
Or if he had made an arrest and was told DCI's dont do that anymore,
or was merely a paper jockey instead of being on the strett bustin heads, ya know?
Even the weather report they showed on his tv showed good conditions coming.

Also-- may i reiterate I LOVED the show and its ending,
just presenting wishes here.

maya left him at the beginning, he fell in love with annie and maybe was just consumed with guilt over leaving them at the train heist

Holy crap!!!!!

Harvey Keitel as Gene hunt looks like he is perfect! Truly the New York version. I watched the California pilot and Colm Meaney just isnt right in that role. Michael Imperioli as Raymondo has so much potential as well. Lenny Clarke could have brought alot to the role but such is life. I will miss the Rachel LeFevre as Annie, but I have always been a sucker for a red head.

I can't wait to see the scene when Gene punches Sam when he first gets to the department. Colm doing it just looked silly.

US Life On Mars and the second series of Ashes to Ashes simultaneously is the goal. I hope this show lasts long enough.

Didnt want to start a new thread BUT
Ashes to Ashes the British follow up to the original Life on Mars debuts on BBC America this Saturday March 7th.
80s follow to original starring Detective Gene Hunt, the best thing about the original show

I'll give it a watch

This ep was a direct rip of a UK episode. And the UK one was better.

I can't comment as I've never seen the UK version, but after looking at pics I can definitely say that the US version of Annie is FAR hotter than the UK version.

To remind us all of how good the BBC ending was....it was voted the #1 ending of a show of all-time in England:

I've been telling my friends all along to just watch the bbc version, now I'll be adamant.
