I'm becoming an addicted fanatic. I play his tunes 24/7 now when I'm home. What is it about him?

Marvin is the King of the "Motown Sound"!
He had many # 1 hits, including "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Got To Give It Up" and "Let's Get It On".
His music oozes sexuality and passion, and he made an incerdible comeback after some lean years in 1982 with "Sexual Healing". Sadly, he was fatally shot by his father in 1984.
There are many greatest hit CD's available, and I also suggest you check out his duets with Mary Wells, KIm Weston and Tammi Terrell..great stuff!

I think you know what it is, Boobsie!

Seriously, is there a more soulful sound in the world than Marvin's voice? Does it just shoot through your entire body and make the hair on the back of your neck stand up? Does he give you goosebumps? Do your hips grind uncontrollably in time with the bass?

Me too.

YEAH...Marvin Gaye is as smooth as silk. You have to be narrow minded to not appreciate his work.

I can listen to the Ecology on a constant loop. I can't dance and don't pretend but man...can he get you to move.

He's great all right. I don't even really care for that type of music - mostly it's metal for me - but I really dig Marvin Gaye.

What's Going On is one of my favs.

Greggy, I know what you mean. It's an unexplainable switch in your body that is turned on when he is crooning out.

Heckler, thanks so much for that list. I've already checked out Al Green, Barry White and Issac Hayes, now I have others to d/l as well. Thanks a bunch! :::cheese kisses:::

I'm so happy others here enjoy Marvin like I do!

Heckler is dead on when he tells you to check out Otis Redding's "I've been loving you too long". Also by Otis..."Try a Little Tenderness" - phenomenal.

Stevie Wonder, in my opinion, did his finest work in the mid 1970s. "songs in the key of life" and "talking book" totally rule. As soon as "I Just Called To Say I Love You" came out , the shark was jumped.

I got I got hardcore into Marvin Gaye during the fall of my senior year of college, especially the "Lets Get It On" album, which I think I prefer slightly to "What's Going On". Check out "If I Should Die Tonight", the third track, great words.

I also love his duet with Tami Terrell on "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", especially when they come out of the middle eight - "my love is alive WOO!" (1:39).

I'd also recommend Teddy Pendergrass, in particular the stuff he did with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes - "Wake Up Everybody" is also an all time fave.
