To anyone who didn't enjoy the payoff of this bit or didn't like the broadcast, what is wrong with you? From multiple Midnight Riders to the broken Bob Dylan guitar, the payoff was glorious.

And if you had a problem with the sound quality of the live remote, what did you expect? O&A can't do a good live remote, and they have real producers, not Earl and Dave. Remember O&A's Halloween party?

I didn't get to go to the Big Ass Bash, and even though I am in Boston, I was still able to find a way to listen to the show and it was amazing. Another great job by our Buddays! And as far as certain people being pissed about it only being on FreeFM and not on XM, I think that's why they decided to give the tickets away to XM listeners first.

Maybe this didn't deserve its own thread, but I just wanted to share my thoughts or something. I thought the Big Ass Bash came across great over the radio and I'm glad that I have such an amazing show to listen to every day. Ron and Fez! The greatest thing going!

And completely irrelevant to this post, I was on a cruise with 30 of my friends and I had one friend there who also listens to Ron and Fez and we continously would get the Nature Boy "Whooo!"s going with our other friends, even though they had no idea why they were yelling it. And they continue to do the "Whoo!"s today when I see them. We've planted Ron and Fez into their subconcious, or something like that. Yeah.

It was the greatest live show ever. I am glad I was there to see it. The only thing that dissappointed me was the Opie wasn't under the mask.

I recorded last night's show from the Web feed and listened to it earlier. The sound quality was excellent. The only thing I noticed was that some of the singers (mainly Dawn and Sleeves) sounded much better live than over the air. All of the others sounded fine on the broadcast. There are alot of visual things that go on that alienate the radio audience a bit, but that's where the videos will fill the void. It was a fantastic night and for anyone to disparage it is just downright silly!

Remotes of that scale are an bloody audio nightmare, you have tons of different sound sources and an ocean of mics, there are so many ways things can screw up, like the remote at Dave and Busters where the electronics of the building completely fucked the wireless mics.

So many many things can go wrong it's a miracle to get any listenable audio; also due to mismatch of signals, and ambient crowd noise, and thats before you have to worry about a single dump.

Anyway long way of saying there will often be a huge disparity in the quality of the experience live vs on-air, which is a long way of say it kicked ass.

=

More important then that even, is how everyone, I mean every single person who appeared on that remote, really stepped up to the plate. That's what makes it.

Listening to the Big Ass Bash again, and its even better the 2nd time. It really has to be one of the better live remotes I've ever heard. Everything went very smoothly, or seemed to at least.

Big props to everyone involved. Just a great job.

Also, Paul-O is amazing. Is there anything he won't do for the show? This guy deserves a lot of praise, or something similar to praise. He takes as much abuse as is humanly possible, and keeps going. Paul-O rules.

There are alot of visual things that go on that alienate the radio audience a bit, but that's where the videos will fill the void. It was a fantastic night and for anyone to disparage it is just downright silly!

Maybe this will shed some light on it.

There were three mixes that happened - the stage monitor mix, the house mix and the on-air mix. By sheer coincidence, my cousin, Steve, did the on-air mix and we talked about it a bit yesterday. I had noticed the YouTube posts of "Fez Loves Dawn" (documenting the house mix) lacked our drummer's bass vocal harmony and that Dawn's vocal was too out-front. I was hopeful that the air mix corrected that. Steve told me that he received submixes from the house board so he did not have individual control over each mic. There was only so much he could do. I have yet to hear the air mix for myself.

The stage monitor mix only put my own vocal through the monitor in front of me. I could barely hear any other vocal - not ideal but workable. That left me with no clue what anything sounded like until I heard the YouTube clips. Additionally, we were only able to soundcheck "It Makes You Fez" because Dawn couldn't get there until after the doors opened (she had to work). The vocal mix on "Fez Loves Dawn" song happened on the fly. C'est la vie.

I've always found that the live energy in the room can compensate for minor flaws in a performance or a mix that are glaring when you hear a recorded playback. The key is that everyone had a good time and enjoyed the show.
