View Full Version : O and A influence

Does anyone else think that the O & A show has negatively influenced the R & F show? They're starting to do similar bits and have the same guests, and moving away from the kind of show that's been uniquely theirs. They have their own clever style and don't need to do the same tired old sexist bits that O & A do. As a result I think the show has suffered as of late. I find myself tuning out more and more. Especially when they have Anthony on the show as they have in recent weeks. If you think Al Dukes sucks the life out of the show, Anthony does it for me. Do you notice Fez barely utters a word when Anthony is on. I know some of you must think that Ron and Fez are the best show on WNEW and tune in just for them. Am I alone?

You have to be the only one who doesn't appreciate this so-called "Opie and Anthony influence." Opie and or Anthony gives an added boost to an already phenomenal program, even though they don't have guests. UGH!
FAR/AFRO/FRO show = has been said many times before but more gooder, got that veganpunk Slapnut!
Why don't you join eggers and start a stable for "nonsensical jabberin?"

I have to agree a little with veganpunk on this one. I don't find myself tuning out when Ant's on, but I can't say I enjoy the AFR show as much as I used to. Anthony is used to being on his own show, I think, and tends to dominate the R&F show when's he's a "guest". I think it's cool that the shows get along, though, since on WNEW and other stations, the DJ's usually aren't as friendly.
I don't know if the crossovers has changed Ron and Fez though. The show definitely has evolved over the last few years, but I could chalk it up to a number of reasons. For one, Al doesn't seem to be booking guests anymore (as in people who aren't part of the R&F gang already like Clare or Melissa). I do think that Joe Poo's return has helped out the show, assuming they stop imitating him all the time and let Joe be the only Joe Poo.
Just my two cents.

POWER AND CHAOS
They're starting to do similar bits and have the same guests
What are these similar bits you speak of? If you are talking about the girls on the show, I think it's a whole different vibe...not so much "show us your tits" but "have fun with us." Real girls, not stripper whores.
As for Anthony, i think ron and fez bring the best out of him. take him away from his show.
The bottom line is, O&A have a 5 share and R&F will greatly benefit from their lead-in and support. Better ratings mean more R&F and a better show. Also, they all like each other. Trust me, if Ron and Fez wanted to do O&A's show, they would (they did it in FLA).

Sheep, I hear ya. She sounds like a total bitch.
Back to the question at hand, though. You are most definitely NOT alone, veganpunk1, in your preference of Ron and Fez's "unique" shows. They are my favorite, too. I don't mind them getting crazy once in a while with girls and drinking games and the like, but I would be disappointed to see the show turn that way permanently. I don't believe it ever will, though. They know their niche and their audience well enough.
