Last time you guys were great... How about these.....

Solve the solution by substituion

x+y=12

y=2x

Solve by graphing

X+y=3

x+y=-1

I say this one cannot be solved by graphing because the points never meet

The sum of two numbers is 110. The second is 8 more than 5 times the first. What are the two numbers.

I can figure this one out but I need to show the work.

Thanks!

third is easy:

make two equations:

5x + 8 = y

x + y = 110

isolate y in 2nd

y = 110 - x

sub this for y in the original

5x + y = 110 - x

solve for x

6x = 102

x = 17

plug this into the original

(17 * 5) + 8 = y

93 = y

so, x = 17, y = 93

I was pretty sure for the third one

y=20.4

x=89.6

This can't be right, X = 5 x Y +8

Whoops I had the same answer for number 3. The numbers I wrote were for a different answer. As for number 2; I checked and I wrote it properly. I also thought the lines never intersected. So I am not doing so poorly. As for number 1. That one I do have issues with so thanks allot for the help.

You knwo what I find humoroue. Everyone thinks I am a 16 year old kid but I am much older and doing most of the work for a friend. Excuse me if I forgot some of this stupid math. Lets see how much you recall in 10 years after you are done with school. I ask 3 or 4 questions, that means I am doing about 26 questions, excuse me if I do not recall everything.
