For me, I go Raven.

From '95-'97 he was the backbone of ECW and he had the two best feuds in the history of the promotion (Raven vs. Sandman; Raven vs. Dreamer).

The Raven character in Raven's prime was about as cool as is got, and its a shame WCW and WWE never gave him at a top spot in their companies.

I wasn't big into ECW original... Mostly due to the lack of tv coverage. My favorite was Raven, mostly due to his gimmick with Kanyon a few years back where he was the rich kid with problems.

I am also all for a guy who can get lypo and regain the weight faster than it came off.

Quote the Ramrod Never more fuckers.

I voted Shane Douglas, "The Franchise" if for nothing but for that night in August of 1994 in Philadelphia. Shane delivered one of the most "holy shit" moments in wrestling history:

"It's no question about it Too Cold Scorpio, you are one hell of a competitor and I will not be a champion that hides. I stand here, before God and my father in Heaven tonight, as I said I would be: World's Heavyweight champion. In the tradition of Lou Thesz; in the tradition of Jack Brisco; all of the Brisco Brothers; of Dory Funk Jr, of Terry Funk, the man who will never die; and the real “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers upstairs tonight. From the Harley Races, to the Barry Windhams, to the... Ric Flairs, I accept this heavyweight title. Wait a second... wait a second, of Kerry Von Erich, of the fat man himself Dusty Rhodes... this is it tonight Dad, God that's beautiful...and Rick Steamboat... and they can all kiss my ass! Because, I am not the man who accepts the torch to be handed down to me from an organization that died R.I.P. seven years ago! "The Franchise" Shane Douglas is the man who ignites the new flame of the SPORT of professional wrestling. Tonight, before God and my father as witness, I declare... myself, “the Franchise,” as the new ECW heavyweight champion of the world! We have set out to change the face of professional wrestling. So, tonight, let the new era begin! The era of the sport of professional wrestling. The era of the “Franchise.” The era of the E-C-W!"

In that singular moment he shit on the NWA title and launched ECW.

that's pretty much the same reason I picked Taz. I always like Shane Douglas, but there was something about a small guy from Brooklyn that would LITTERALY suplex you out of the building while screaming Fuck The World the entire time. Taz was a bastard and I loved him for it.

I voted sabu, not because he was the best spoken, best acting, or best bits....but because he is the craziest motherfucker ever to step into a ring, and for the "sport" of wrestling that is enough!

homicidal, suicidal, genocidal baby!

other than that i'd have to say dudley boyz, but only because i grew up with one half of em ;)

Raven without a doubt. Cut amazing promos and was good in the ring. His promos are really what did it for me though. I'll never forget how the WWE (then WWF) completely misused him. I remember they let him be himself once on Sunday Night Heat or something, and he absolutely killed, then they turned him into quiet hardcore guy again.

Bring back the Raven/Sandman feud.

Some other people who deserve some notice:

-Public Enemy: Very important to the early days of old ECW.

-New Jack: He's already been mentioned, but still...New Jack was the worst fucking wrestler I've ever seen but EVERYBODY talked about him because he was out of his mind.

-Super Crazy & Tajiri: ECW had already lost a lot of their stars when these two came in, and I remember going nuts for their feud. Both those guys were awesome against each other. Throw in Little Guido for good measure, too.

I picked Taz (with one Z), just because he gave the best promos in the company at the time.ÿ

I remember watching the ECW show at like 2 A.M. on MSG and he would cut these awesome promos with the black towel over his head, close up shot.. just calling out the Rock, calling out Hogan, calling out his opponent and everyone else. No love for Mikey Whipwreck?

I loved Mikey and his tag team with Cactus Jack (when they were feuding with PE and Cactus had to drag Mikey to the ring)

But even though Cactus wasn't there very long, I'll still pick him as my favorite. Foley always seemed to me just like a real "regular" guy. He wasn't very athletic, but he put his heart into everything he did, and I really respected him as a performer. There are guys with tons more athleticism and charisma and talent that didn't do half of what Cactus did with the hand he was dealt.

Speaking of the Eliminators, I just watched that match they had again with the Gangstas where they sandwiched New Jack between two tables, taped the tables together, and then destroyed him with Total Elimination....

I didn't get to watch much ECW until after they closed down and I like just about everyone on the list, I'd have to go with Tommy Dreamer. He's not the best wrestler or the best talker, but he came off as a genuinely good guy and the perfect underdog who usually got beaten down but still got enough licks in to be credible. One of my favourite ECW monets ever was when he did the arm spread and shouted out 'EC FUCKING W!" before hitting Raven with a DDT and finally beating him. And he doesn't even get to celebrate before RVD, Sabu and Jerry Lawler come in and kick the shit out of him (and most of the rest of the roster). Still gives me chills.

the tajiri/super crazy series was great because, at a time when raw and nitro were doing 15 minute long promos, it went on completely without dialogue and just awesome wrestling from two guys most people hadnt heard of.

jerry lynn deserves a mention for going from being a total bore to writing 'die' on his chest in steve corino's blood.

steve corino, the old school hero, was the best heel they put out.

joel gertner doesnt fucking wrestle but i miss him

spike dudley shouldve gotten to cut 'shoot' promos more often, because he was really great out of character.

anyways, i voted Sandman...his entrance alone made him badass, even tho he wasnt the best "ring guy" his presence made it work. i was at a CZW show in RI about 6 years ago in this tiny club with a ceiling that was so low the guys couldnt use about 1foot of the ring on one side. Sandman was on the card facing some nobody, so the music hits and Sandman starts walking through the crowd (his usual 5 min routine)...so finally he walks over to where me and my friends were standing, he walked right up to me arms length away lifted his beer can up, and poured beer all over me then just stared at me with that glazed over "im so fucking drunk i dont care" look. it was crazy...then he proceeded to stumble into the ring and "wrestle" completely smashed for the next 10 minutes...he even bumped his head on the low ceiling...twice. how can you not love a guy like that
