I have an odd voice that I myself hate however every so often someone stops me in the street and says I should be doing voice overs. Any ideas how I can get started. Any agencies in NYC???? Anyone know anything about such a thing.Any help would be real cool. Thanks

There are a couple of online voice-over sites...I used one called "Voices"...and it connects up people "at home" or whatever with companies or people looking for voice overs. VO jobs are posted and you can audition for them.

I did it for a few months and only got one job...But I do think there are a lot of people who do get work this way.

My impression was that there is a tone of competition in the VO world and you have to be really committed to the whole thing (aside from being really good). Even if you have a really cool or interesting voice, it will take some time. There are some agencies you can find by searching google...but they seem like they represent already established people.

Also, be well aware that one part of the formula is having a unique voice, but the other part is having good diction.

I have a few friends that do voice overs. (one of them is the orange m&m,lol). It's as hard to get into as acting isn't it? I guess maybe not but let us know wat you find out :)

What where you doing to get stopped by people on the street?? LOL

That's cool... I often wondered about this topic myself. Again let us know how it goes...

Best voice over guy ever:

If I had a voice like that I would constantly walk around and talk to people. You should give it a shot!

I could market myself like this:

"Get a voice like Ron Howard, but don't pay for Ron Howard."
