This may have already been discussed as I heard it on the radio a few days ago. But someone was calling in saying that there were less American flags at the Puerto Rican Day Parade than at other ethnic parades, such as St. Patricks, Columbus, and some Norwegian parade in Brooklyn that I never heard of before, even if I did used to play soccer for some not so secret societ known as the Sons of Norway. (BTW, I'm not Norwegian, I'm Italian, apparently the Norwegians were looking for some ringers.)

Anyway, I think that one not seeing American flags at the Puerto Rican Day Parade is an optical illusion more than it is some type racially motivated hysterical blindness, as was suggested on the air.

The Puerto Rican flag, like the American flag is red, white and blue. The flag of Puerto Rico isn't just red, white and blue. But it is the exact same shade of red, the exact same strength of blue and the exact same white as the flag of the United States of America.

At the Puerto Rican Day Parade, there are more PR flags than USA flags. The PR flag catches your eye. The lesser USA flags, which have the same colors, tend to blend in with the PR flags. Just because if you look down the street you'll see thousands of flags, maybe 90% PR flags and 10% US flags. That's just a guess at the percentage. But, the point of the optical illusion is that you aren't going to study every flag to determine the percentage. You are likely to just see all the flags and think, "Wow that's a lot of PR flags" and not realize that 10% of them are actually US flags.

Or, I could easily be wrong. But, I thought I'd mention the idea.

Thank you for your time. Sorry, if I broke any forum rules. I'm new. I've heard the show plenty, but never showed up at the forums before.

Why would it matter anyway? It's Puerto Rican day. They're Puerto Ricans. They're a territory of the USA. If it was Washington DC Day or New York day, would people be upset to see their flags?

It doesn't matter.

I guess I was just sticking up for the guy who made the mistake and got labeled racist for it. I mean, sometimes people just make mistakes for non-racist reasons. For example, they just took a quick look and thought it was all PR flags, even if that wasn't true.

I understand your point, but it doesn't matter if it was an optical illusion or racism. Anyone who would bitch about it is a whiny bastard. I'm sick of people bitching about being offended so easily. This country is becoming so pussified, that in order to have a TV sitcom where you can make fun of people, ABC is resorting to doing a series of the damn Caveman commercials! I like the commercials, but ABC admitted, they like the idea, because they can use "stereotypes" and there isn't anyone left to complain about them. It's all such bullshit.

BTW.. I'm not attacking you personally. Please don't think I am. I'm just pissed at the way our society has been acting for so many years.
