Last night, Fallon and I were goofing on each other, when it suddenly turned deadly serious.

You see, Fallon is one of the biggest Red Sox fans on this board, and I am probably one of the bigger Yankee fans on this board.

The Setup: The Yankees play the Red Sox for six games in April. Three at Fenway, and Three at the Stadium.

The terms of the bet:

If the Yankees win the majority of the six games (4 wins), then Fallon must appear at the next official Ron and Fez event (either a station-sanctioned promo or official board event) dressed in a Yankee cap and a Johnny Damon #18 New York Yankees T-Shirt.

If the Red Sox win the majority of the six games (4 wins), then I must appear at the next official Ron and Fez event (either a station-sanctioned promo or official board event) dressed as "Matthew Bradshaw Layfield Fridays". Cowboy hat and tie and jacket.

If there is a split, for the sake of the board, then "Bobby Fallon, Johnny Damon's #1 Fan" AND "Matthew Bradshaw Layfield Fridays" will appear at the next sanctioned promo.

Disclaimer: Due to personal events, if the next board event or sanctioned promo happens in May or early June, the "payoff" of the bet will occur at the next event after that.

Fallon, do you accept?

REVISED 3/13/06 at 11AM, with new terms of the bet:

If the Sox win the majority of the six games, Matty appears at the next agreed-upon official board and/or station/show sanctioned promotion after June 10th, 2007 in a Red Sox cap, a Curt Schilling t-shirt, and will donate at least 25 dollars to "Curt's Pitch", Schilling's charity for ALS Research.

If the Yankees win the majority of the six games, Fallon appears at the next agreed-upon official board and/or station/show sanctioned promotion after June 10th, 2007 in a Yankees cap, a Johnny Damon t-shirt, and will donate $25 bucks to either the Jorge Posada foundation, Derek Jeter's Turn 2 foundation, or the Joe Torre Safe at Home foundation. (His choice)

If the games are split, then both Matty and Fallon will appear at an event dressed in the aforementioned Red Sox and Yankee gear. If there is a rain-out or postponement so all six games cannot be played (i.e. three at Fenway, three at Yankee stadium), the bet may be changed or extended to include the next 6 Yankee/Red Sox games, May 21-23 at the Stadum and June 1-3 at Fenway.

RULES: The hat and shirt must be an officially licensed MLB apparel, in the official team colors. This means Navy Blue and white and or grey for the Yankees gear, and Navy Blue, Red, and white for the Red Sox gear. No "alternate colors" gear, and nothing homemade. The hats also must be as close to on-field wear as possible. This means the Yankee "NY" logo or the Red Sox "B" logo.

Acceptable apparel:

Game on, bitches.

why not just go the loser has to wear the other teams uniform, the jersey should have the winners name on it, i.e. Fallon wins Matty wears a Red Sox uniform with FALLON on the back and the #1 and vice versa.

How is this a bet? Fallon gets tortured or Matty wears a cowboy hat.

Sounds alot tougher on Fallon. I bought a friend of mine a Yankees jersey for college graduation or something and the split second I put on that horrible shirt made me sick. I was just pleading that no one caught it on camera.

i dont need odds. how about a side bet? by default and out of fear for my testies i will take Fallon, if he wins Ralph you have to grow out your beard for a month. If I lose, I will have to shave my goatee that has been on my handsome face for years for a month.

Why can't the terms of the bet include having either Fallon go to the Bronx and kiss Yankee Stadium or Tenbats coming to Boston to kiss Fenway Park if they lose?

It would save me the trouble of travelling to a board event to finally meet Matty.

Oh man, if Fenway and the Stadium were cleaner, this would totally be on the table.

(I'm dying to get up to Boston now that I'm legal - haven't been there in a good 15 years - for the pubs and the history . . . Trinity Church, the USS Constitution in the Harbor, Fanueil Hall, etc.)

But, owing to the fact that both buildings could give you diseases that haven't been named yet, and both Matty & Fallon would have to cauterize their respective kissers so as not to infect either Friday or me, kissing the winner's home-stadium is not an option.

But, owing to the fact that both buildings could give you diseases that haven't been named yet, and both Matty & Fallon would have to cauterize their respective kissers so as not to infect either Friday or me, kissing the winner's home-stadium is not an option.

What's the entree? Do I get a choice of chicken or steak?

I can't promise that I won't get drunk and start singing "White Wedding" by Billy Idol during your first dance as man and wife. If you don't have a problem with that, I'll dust off the old tuxedo t-shirt and head on down.

That, and just get control.. His control was way off last night.. He was missing spots all over the place.. I mean when was the last time you saw Mo throw a ball way over someones head?? Plus, as i stated in the Yankee thread, Torre called on him in the middle of the 8th.. He could not have had enough time, from when Torre called him to warm, until He was called into the game.. That and the 5 day layoff, really had a big effect.. Same thing with the oak game.. He had not pitched in a few days the either.. Because of shitty weather.. Mo will be fine..

Again, between 2001 and 2004, Schilling has caused more heartbreak for the Yankees than Ortiz. Ortiz was part of a team that beat us once, but as noted in several threads, 2001 hurts a lot more than The Choke in 2004 ever could.

Whoever noted that is wrong. 2004 was the worst thing ever ever in baseball. 2001 was just one of those things that goes wrong. 2004 a complete 360 after the Yankees dominated the Red Sox.

I'm talking on a personal level. To me, 2001 was the worst. It was the end of the dynasty, and everything that happened in that three-month span, and then the uprising with the Byun-Hyung Kim games, and then Mariano blowing the gave in Game 7... sorry. 2001 is much, much worse to me than 2004.

Agreed. It was the biggest collapse/choke in the history of baseball and arguably in all of sports. Plus, Schilling wasn't even on the Red Sox in 2001, so the symbolism to the Sox-Yanks series is pretty absent.

You are not getting it.

Schilling was on the Diamondbacks in 2001, and basically owned the Yankees in that series. Hence why Schilling has more bile to me. Ortiz sucks, but yeah, he beat us in 2004. Schilling beat us in 2001 AND 2004, and both were gutwrenching, especially with the bloody sock. But 2001 will always be much, much worse TO ME than 2004.

I understand hating Schilling more. To me he is the most obnoxious piece of trash in the game. The sneer he has on his face makes me ill. 2004 was like an ass raping though. I was at a bar for game three of that series after the game I turned to my friend and said " I'm happy we're gonna sweep but last year was so exciting" Then 4 strait and we lose. It cannot be matched in utter embarassment.

Ortiz has beaten the hell out of us and out of a lot of teams, and I don't like him simply because he's a member of the Sox, but he doesn't have that "something extra" that adds to this bet like Schilling would. Fallon would never wear a Jeter jersey, but he'd never in a million years wear a Damon jersey because of how Damon "sold out" for the Yankees, AND performed well AND is seen as a clubhouse leader.

Sorry. 9/11, the comebacks, being up 3-2, and blowing it in Game 7 to me is worse. (and no, I'm not comparing 9/11 to the 2001 series, I'm just saying that the depression and malaise that lingered over the city... there was some sort of hope there. Hope is a dangerous thing.)

Yeah, 2004 sucked, but hey, the Sox got owned in 2003. There's not one "flashpoint" in 2004, it was just an overall collapse.

lleeder
04-21-2007, 06:02 PM
I might be able to agree with you if the Yankees had won a championship in 2003 after they "owned" the sox but they didn't. The sox beat the Yankees in 2004 in the most humiliating fashion then won the championship and then made the curse end.

On the Feast of the Assumption, a Holy Day of Obligation, two idiots decide to screw in St. Patrick's Cathedral, seat of the Archdiocese of New York, to participate in a contest sponsored by a beer company and a radio show.

We, on the other hand, will be going up to Boston to a brewery for one of the beer company's tours, which might have the added benefit of a free sample.

No churches, no angry non-entities, no off-color comedians and no radio shows will be involved.
