One or the other might do the trick. You should probably go with something else if you just want to sleep. I use melatonin. Of course it doesn't work as well as ambien, but it wont make you feel like shit.

One night last winter I had a nasty cold and not much of either Dayquil or Nyquil so I mixed them together and held on. Nasty stuff. Winds you up and gives you nonstop sweats and chills.

i prefer to make my Black & Reds with Guinness and Sam's Cherry Wheat but whatever floats your boat :-)

I tried ambien just one time and i woke up after 3 1/2 hours and didn't rest that well the rest of the night. It did relax me and at first I felt so relaxed i almost fell over but I was hoping for a good 7 or 8 straight hours of sleep. The instructions say to take on an empty stomach but what if you ate just a little bit, would it decrease the affect of it that much?

The thing that makes you sleep in nyquil is basically benadryl, and it wont kill you to have a beer w/ that, but there is a shitload of tylenol in nyquil and you most defnitely should not be mixing alcohol and that, especially on a regular basis, or you risk liver damage.

As a longtime insomniac i've run into this dilemma several times and the answer is always no. It's not so much the liver damage that gets to me, its remembering how many people you have heard about dying from that one in a million mix of two sleeping pills and a glass of wine. It's not worth risking it.
