View Full Version : Greatest Right Wing In NHL History
<p>Maybe it's because it was my position for most of my hockey playing days, but it seems to me that many of the greatest players in NHL history have been right wingers. </p><p>Who's your pick for the greatest ever? </p>

<p>Had to go with Guy. </p><p>My favorite of all time though was Bobby Orr ( sorry to remind you of your night boss) followed by Scott Stevens. </p><p>Hockey is Defense!!! (and thats what i play of course)</p>
<p>Bossy was unbelievable, and if he didn't have such chronic back problems who knows how many goals he would have scored. That guy was a certified sniper. </p><p>Jari Kurri was mind blowing too, and I don't know if anyone else on the planet could have meshed so well with Gretzky. </p><p>Anybody nicknamed "The Rocket" is cool in my book, and I would have loved to have seen Richard play.</p><p>My memories of Guy LaFleur are of him blazing down the wing and cranking up that slapper in full stride. It was a thing of beauty. I used to practice that all the time when I played. </p><p>It's tough to go against a guy known as "Mr. Hockey" though. And not just because I'm a Wing nut. Besides, how can you not love a guy who played professionally until he was 52??? What an animal. </p>

I play in mens leagues now and most of our defensemen are newbs. So I let them pick the side they are more comfortable on. </p>

wow, great poll. after much thought, im gonna to with the rocket just slightly above howe. all these guys are fantastic players. the rocket had a goal scoring trophy named after him. i love watching old highlights of all these players. i only got to watch kurri and bossey during my lifetime.

Howe at least would mix it up. "The Great One" had an unofficial no touch policy. His last four years were a joke, especially when he played in NY. He wanted to be with Mess, so they could relive his glory years and hope Mess would give him his just due. Him refusing to step down as the Coyotes coach is just another example of thuis ego maniac not doing whats good for his team.</p>

Kinda a reverse Ruth Hank... People see that Hank broke his record with somthing like 8000 more at bats, and people say, WOW, how many more hrs would babe had hit with those at bat?? </p>

Gretzky, although a great player, was a mary. Hockey was never suppose to be a game for marys. The game has always been about bonecrunching checks and fights just as much as goals. </p>

The Coyotes are building from within and aren't expected to be good right now. And second, anyone could hit Wayne and many tried but couldn't. He wasn't exactly the fastest skater, but it was real hard to line him up for a clean check. Not to mention hockey is a team game and most teams that had him were smart enough to have protection for him if you did think to hit him. Wayne credits these people all the time for his stats and his runs, even in his writings. Oh and his stats were still pretty damn good with the Rangers just not up to his golden era level. In 2 of 3 years in NY, he tallied 90 pts or better. The final year he missed a few games and still averaged just under a point a game (62 pts in 70 games) in his 20th fucking season! So that just about kills your compiler argument on Gretzky. </p><p>And comparing him to Gordie is nuts as they were totally different players. Gordie wasn't even close to as skilled as Wayne, but played hard and tough every night. Gordie played for 25 seasons straight before a few years off and then a stint in the WHA. Only once in his career did he go over 100 pts. while Wayne did it 16 times (out of 20), 4 times over 200 pts. So explain this theory to me a little better and stare at his last 4 years (Wayne's) below with his career stats.</p><p><table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tbody><tr><td class="l tabtit2" width="50">Season</td><td class="l tabtit2" width="200">Team</td><td class="l tabtit2" width="50">Lge</td><td class="tabtit2" width="30">GP</td><td class="tabtit2" width="30">G</td><td class="tabtit2" width="30">A</td><td class="tabtit2" width="30">Pts</td><td class="tabtit2" width="30">PIM</td><td class="tabtit2" width="20">GP</td><td class="tabtit2" width="20">G</td><td class="tabtit2" width="20">A</td><td class="tabtit2" width="20">Pts</td><td class="tabtit2" width="20">PIM</td></tr><tr><td class="l">1976-77</td><td class="l"><a href="http://www.ronfez.net/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0010541977.html">Peterborough Petes</a></td><td class="l">OHA</td><td>3</td><td>0</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>0</td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td></tr><tr class="shade1"><td class="l">1977-78</td><td class="l"><a href="http://www.ronfez.net/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0011251978.html">Sault Ste.
