I get takeout BBQ from this lil joint close to my house fairly often and I never know whether or not to tip the chick behind the counter. It's a pay before you eat establishment if you dine in, they bring your food to you but you get your own drinks. I generally call in and pick up the food at the takeout window; would you tip?

the pay before you eat tells me no tip. if it was a diner-type (pay after you eat), i would tip.

I don't feel obligated, but if it's a place I go to all the time and they know me, I might leave a dollar or two. Unless it's the owner running the counter, then no.

I tend to agree but I always leave feeling like I should have tipped.

Your paying for the goods, you tip on service. You go and pick this shit up, how much does it take for them to hand you a bag? Unless she cups your balls and massages the shaft there is definitely no need to tip.

If it's a local place you like and go to allot and there is a tip jar... I would throw in a buck. It's just a sign of good will... but that's just me.

The Dunkin Donuts drive thru guy is the best, he's always got a good joke, he never fucks up the order and hes pleasant. He always says that Sarah likes her coffee sweet, like her. I like the fact that a guy in a wheelchair who works in a Dunkin Donuts is in a good mood at 5:30. The Starbucks tipping is because I go there everyday, and one of the guys will swing buy with freebies (we're right across the road) for me every so often.

If they were serving you the food inside the restaurant, then tip. But if you're picking the food up at a take-out window, no tip.

If theyre not cleaning up after me, I dont leave a tip.

But here's another question about tipping:

I go to the same laundromat every week. I drop off. I always feel weird merely paying the bill when I pick up the next day. It's a mom and pop store and I assume the same people are always doing my laundry. They call me by my first name. Theres no tip jar, nor any sign promoting or prohibiting it.

Do you tip in that situation? Or do I maybe wait til Christmas and give em a gift?

I never tip for takeout. What's the point? I'd want my money to go to the guys who made my dinner, not the guy who charged my card up front. Unless I walked into the kitchen and handed the guy cash, there's no guarantee the guy up front wouldn't keep it for himself.

Sidebar: The guy I gave my money to at the window in a Wendy's on Rt.17 gave me my change and said 'There you go, Gringo'. So I know that I'm not gonna break my no-tipping-takeoutwindowman streak at that Wendy's.

No not normally, though some places like Starbucks drive thru's have their little tip bowl there and if I get back like 35¢ or whatever once in a while I'll just toss it in.

Christmas gift / bonus works as well. I just feel like the people doing 40 pounds of our laundry a week, I want to keep on my good side and happy. Plus they do an AWESOME job.

The whole idea of "tipping" is such a scam by business owners. Some places even take a percentage of tips from employees. For example, people tip at a lot at coat rooms. In busy/upscale places a coat checker could make like $1,000 a night, but they almost always give a percentage of their tips to the owners. That absolutely infuriates me.

Buddy of mine was a mover for a few months and the families would tip with the mind that tips would go equally to each person who helped deliver their heavy ass shit to their new homes, but because he was a new guy, the dudes with seniority would just smile at him and take his half of the tips and stuff it in their pockets. That's infuriating.

The one concern about NOT tipping in a place where you go regularly for food is the concern of what they will do to your food next time. Anyone seen the movie "Waiting" where they send the food back? Wouldnt want that happening to my food.

At this rate, I'm thinking about starting the "Who in the hell DON'T I tip????" thread.
I say, you giving a few bucks every once in awhile is fine.

People used to tip me at the drive thru window of taco bell all the time when I worked there in high school. Usually drunk people, after a night of tipping the bartenders I guess it just came naturally. We were always like "what the hell why is this person giving me money?" it was cool though. Coolest thing ever and I reccomend spreading the cheer is a 2 guys drove up to the window smoking a jay and said "do you know what this is" and the I nodded and he said, "You want it" and I nooded and the dude gave me a pre rolled fatboy. Pretty fucking cool.

What about restaurants where you get curbside service? Like the Outback where I live brings my carryout food to my truck, gets my credit card, takes it in and swipes it, brings it back to me and I sign and bring the food home. I usually tip them like $5, but I always drive away wondering.
