<p>you have to be a fucking maniac to think reparations are a good idea. it is SUCH a slippery slope to go down, it would be impossible to get out of the shit we started. </p><p>if anything, I would say the best case scenario would be a tax credit for all people filing income taxes who can trace their lineage back to slavery. say 500 a year for life, with the tax repeal lasting as many years as slavery did</p>

<p>You could never dole out set amounts of money for reparations of slavery in this country as a national policy. </p><p>It's so complex an issue in terms of who would be held responsible that I'm not even sure you could reach a proper decision. </p><p>The government could encourage blacks to prove their slave ancestory and then sue the descendants of their former slave owners in a personal court setting, but slavery was not a crime, therefore no one did anything illegal, and laws can't be enforce retroactively. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The best solution for this is two-fold:</p><p>1) A national day of mourning/recognition</p><p>2) Reparations in the form of increased governmental attention and funding to predominately poor African-American communities to education and job opportunities. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Obviously, that second option is a bit open-ended, which will lead conservative people to say &quot;we're just suppose to spend government money on this forever?&quot;</p><p>My response would be, no...only until the Census numbers in terms of wealth demographics for people who identify themselves as African-American reflects similarly to those who identify themselves as Caucasian. </p><p>When that happens, then you know blacks have been successfully integrated into society and there's no more need for reparation or 'even the playing field' type of talk. </p><p>In truth, it would probably take another generation to accomplish if done properly...a good 20 years. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
